Headphone amp?

So last christmas I got a pair of Sennheiser 595s. They're totally awesome, but recently I've been reading and it sounds like I'm pretty much screwing myself out of the full opportunity with these things.

I plug my headphones into my headphone amp on my laptop using a 3/4 -> 1/8 adapter, and nothing in between.

What do I need to upgrade?

    A good place to look into this kind of stuff is over at http://www.head-fi.org/forums/. Just be sure not to pay too much attention to every minor complaint, people have radically different tastes after all.
