Obama: 129 Bowling Score "like the Special Olympics"
Posts
Man, if I was president, I'd have them make me a phone like this just for the hell of it. It'd be the dreamcast controller of communication.
So when two media outlets cover the same thing and one's headline and lead in is:
On '60 Minutes,' Obama rebukes Cheney criticism
President Obama said in an interview aired Sunday that the hardest decision he's made since taking office was to send more troops to Afghanistan.
And the other's headline + lead in is:
Obama ... 'Are You Punch-Drunk?'
President laughs, smiles while discussing how quickly the economy crumbled between the election and inauguration
Does that mean Fox News (the latter) is circling the conservative wagons?
You're forgetting the outrage that seven year olds and their overprotective parents can dust up. Obama will lose the crucial support of Soccer Moms everywhere.
That's pretty much the worst photoshop ever.
I know, what's that string coming out of the phone?
ehh, he shouldn't have said it.
"That's retarded."
"Wow what a fag."
etc.
It doesn't make it right, but the average persons skin is thick enough to ignore it, or at least accept that saying something like that doesn't mean you just called the elimination of that people.
Some things are just unimportant.
Obama made a dumb comment, and if he were anyone else that's all it would've been. If a popular actor makes that gag on Leno it doesn't mean anything but an indignant press release from a couple advocacy orgs.
We should hold our political leadership to a higher standard. That is why we make them our leaders.
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Actually, it seems the latter would be much worse and more tasteless, considering that, as far as I know, nobody died because of the special olympics, let alone thousands of people.
The dude joked about his fuck up that killed thousands of people. That's not self deprecating, that's sociopathic.
Yeah, I agree with you, making an insensitive politically incorrect joke about the disabled is not comparable to mocking the reason a bunch of my fellow soldiers died
Because they're on two completely different ends of the tastelessness spectrum, one is not okay but everyone does it, and the other is "what the holy fuck is wrong with you no seriously go fuck off"
I'm walking down the street and in front of a group of random people I decide to make a joke.
It could be, "hey what's under here, nope, no WMDs here" in which case people would probably chuckle or roll their eyes.
Or it could be "whoops I tripped gosh it's like i'm in the special olympics" in which case at least a few would probably find what I said offensive.
Stop trying to twist this into non-reality.
If you were the president and you made a Special Olympics joke I would be like "no, you gotta be the classiest" if you made a WMD joke I would leap on your person and tear at you with my teeth until I tasted blood.
Hey
Fuck you
No seriously fuck you
A lot of my fellow soldiers died so you can fucking "chuckle or roll your eyes"?
"Oh tee hee hee making a WMD joke is fucking hilarious oh heh heh heh look at those thousands of dead soldiers fucking awesome"
You're walking down the street after a rough day and you come across a group of people. One of them reaches into his jacket and you shoot him dead. Then you joke to his buddies that "oops, I thought there was a gun in his jacket" and laugh.
And, yeah, I am being serious. "WHOOPS THEY AREN'T UNDER THE COUCH" doesn't cut it in my mind.
What the fuck is the point you're trying to make?
Yes, the WMD joke by Bush was in bad taste. The man said a number of things that were in bad taste.
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Well if you really want to be proper about the analogy you should also point out that the guy previously shot his family to death, after which the police confiscated his gun and then left him alone.
I don't think joking about the reason why you sent thousands of Americans to die is "in bad taste"
I think it's far, far, far more offensive than "in bad taste"
what term is acceptable, then
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
When you are the guy that caused the war to find those WMDs that killed so many, you don't get to use any WMD jokes because PEOPLE FUCKING DIED ON YOUR ORDER.
Now, if Obama had kicked an autistic kid THEN made the joke, it would be on something like equal ground.
I can't figure it out.
It's just now about how offensive it really was, in what way it was, who it offended, and then how offensive other things are in comparison, and then comparing said other things to this thing to relate the level of offensiveness to find the appropriately matching analogy in offensiveness.
What he said was insensitive but not intentionally harmful or mean-spirited. Didn't he even already apologize? It was an off-hand joke in poor taste.

That's still rude and missing the point that the Special Olympics isn't just a bunch of patronising but well-meaning people going 'Oh! You fell over! Well good on you for trying, honey!'
It's still ignorant and patronising of him.
Nope. From your own link.
Edit:
You sure you aren't confusing it with the Paralympic Games? Special Olympics doesn't really have competition as the main thrust of it's goal. It's much more concerned with supporting esteem and community outreach.
True, but it's also true that people are going to applaud Special Olympians just for being out there and competing despite their handicaps. The fact that the special olympics has some athletes that are quite good doesn't make this untrue. I wouldn't even call it patronizing, since it wasn't a jab at Special Olympians so much as it was to patronizing people in general.
