So after much searching I found iGrabNews which appears to be a wonderful program. Unfortunately, being a Mac newbie I haven't a clue where to get a QuickPAR and WinRAR alternative. Can anyone offer some advice?

The Unarchiver or StuffIt Expander, both free.

No idea what QuickPAR is though.

Also, if you have more OS X questions, the Mac thread in G&T has lots to offer.

MacPar is recommended on Quickpar's page.

go with macpar. stuffit expander too.

as far as newsreaders go... I'm against them. I think a good web interface is better than bloating up my hard drive with crap that I won't be touching... but a good GUI depends on your news service.
