Wireless Connected but not Working

polecat89polecat89 Registered User regular
Yesterday for some reason, my wireless network connection on both mine and my wife's laptop stopped working. Everything looks to be in order - the modem, router, network connection status - but no internet access. I haven't changed any settings, and have tried different solutions that I've seen out there. I've powered everything down and cycled them back up, but still no luck. I've repaired the connection, renewed the IP, etc. I also tried physically connecting to the LAN, and that's not working either.

Any thoughts?

Can the computers see each other on the network, and you don't have internet access; or are the computers effectively isolated?

The computers can see each other.

I was able to reset the Linksys wireless-N router - I have internet access now.

this sort of thing will happen with almost any retail router i've come across. since you're using a linksys, I might suggest putting DD-WRT firmware on it (the firmware is linux based) this will greatly increase the functionality of your router and most linksys routers are able to run it. I know i restart my router about once every week or so, but I don't use wireless that much.

just search for DD-WRT in google and you should be able to find a tutorial.

NOTE: I haven't done this myself, though a good friend of mine has and said its worth it.
