Oooooh, Wolfenstein. I'm so excited that this is coming out on the PS3. There's nothing I love more than killing Germa^H^H^H^H^H Nazis who are attempting to use arcane and eldritch powers to take over the world.

Man, what? Didn't RCTW already cover the Nazi science experiments stuff?

How sci-fi can you get with Nazis anyway?

GTTV confirmed no Hitler in this game. The user comments for the trailer make me wonder how well this game will sell though.

Sadly they've already confirmed there is no mecha-hitler in this game. Despite that. the game does look good though. I rather enjoyed RTCW, so I'll be looking forward to this.

Game of the Year if that happens.

More games need to let you kill Hitler. It's like the national pastime.

(Why this was somehow a problem for Persona 2: Innocent Sin's localization, who knows.)

Ive never played a game with alternate/parallel worlds you go back and forth between, and thought "Wow this is a great feature and is really fun"

    Im hoping this changes that.

I actually thought this looks a bit... dated? The character models seem off, and even the main player's hands and weapons looked unnatural to me.

This is my biggest hangup with this game. I love the Wolfenstein universe but the whole veil stuff in this one has me worried. Usually games that use mechanics similar to this fall victim to unnecessary backtracking and the like.

I will still play it at some point most likely, but as of now there is nothing I'm seeing that is making me think "Day One".

RCTW was 1998/1999, wasn't it? And Doom 3 was like 2003.

Still, my fond memories of Doom/Wolfenstein consist of blocky geometry and flat sprites on a 3d plane. The Doom series ended at II (with the expansions) and Wolfenstein ended after RCTW. I love these games to death, but I wouldn't say id is capable of handling the IPs correctly anymore.

It's using a heavily modified Doom 3 engine if I remember correctly, so that might be at least partially the reason for it looking that way. Even still, Raven is a relatively talented studio, hopefully a few more months of polish will iron some of that out.

I thought this was using the most recent ID engine?

Either way the stills that were out awhile ago looked dates- but now that ive seen it in motion it looks a little bit better.

I just recently played RTCW for the first time and really enjoyed it. I skipped it and went straight to enemy territory. I'm hoping they pull off something new in this one.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein was released in 2001. Not 1998. And DOOM 3 was awesome. Fuck the haters. And the original DOOM and DOOM II played on a more modern engine (Like DoomsDay) with real lighting effects and 3D objects and updated textures kicks the ass of most new FPS games out there today. Including all three Halo games both separately and combined.

So, I'm curious. What's with the sci-fi aspect in Wolfenstein games now? I liked it when it was all mechanical and took place in the old days with no sci-fi super weapon stuff. To me, sci-fi and Nazi's just don't go together. Despite what all those specials on the History channel would say about history.

Bah, better sci-fi than yet another pseudo-historical WWII setting. Besides, I distinctly remember stuff like genetically engineered Nazi mutant zombies and mecha-Hitler and crazy ghosts and shit in Wolfenstein 3-D. Plasma guns that boil off flesh or whatever seems like a fair fit given the pedigree.

I still play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Multiplayer pretty much daily when i dont have work to do (damn you dissertation!), so so so many great times i've had playing that game, and i was lucky to find a great bunch of people to play with regularly.

I'm worried this will never be able to live up to how much i love ET, but if the multiplayer is decent (once a competition mod comes out) and has an active community this could easily consume several more years of my life, I don't know whether to be scared or excited by that fact :D

    Edit:

Also, a July release is perfectly timed for when i graduate :D Will have mucho time to play this while i fail at finding a job!

Crushing my joke aside, seriously, the protagonist of Wolfenstein looks like a sort of generic Max Payne / guy from GTA3. Pants, white t-shirt, leather jacket, and that asshole haircut.

The Nazi's did do a lot of occult investigations IRL. Why do you think it pops up in pop culture so much (Hellboy, Indiana Jones)

Also the original Wolfenstien had zombie monsters (Hell, you squared off against a demon to win the Spear of Destiny in the second Wolf game back in the day).

It's like asking if Doom 3 didn't already cover the demons from hell coming through teleporters.

    It's kinda Wolf's thing.

the whole parallel world shtick seems unnecessary from what ive read. my main complaint with return was that it abandoned the nazis for all the other stupid shit after a while. this one seems to be addressing that by having the crazy monsters be nazis also, so thats cool. hopefully this will turn out well, because nothing is as awesome as killing the shit out of some nazis.
