Gameplay Video in OP. Updated Version of Military Madness on XBLA, PSN and WiiWare!
Hudson Entertainment to Recruit Soldiers for New Generation of Military Madness
Classic TurboGrafx-16 Strategy Game Returns to Digital Download Platforms with Updated Features and Gameplay
San Mateo, Calif. – March 23, 2009 – Ten-hut! Military Madness, the classic turn-based strategy game published by Hudson Entertainment, the North and South American publishing arm of HUDSON SOFT, is coming to Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®Network, and WiiWare™. This new version of the strategic combat simulation game includes an all-new graphical barrage, a regiment of new units, online co-op and vs. multiplayer and a platoon of other new features. Due to be ready for deployment this summer, Military Madness has been rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
“Since its original release on TurboGrafx-16 in 1989, Military Madness has stood the test of time as one of the longest-lived turn-based strategy games in history,†said Sabine Duvall, Vice President of Product Development at Hudson Entertainment. “The new Military Madness will give fans of the original a modern version of this classic strategy game, while gamers new to the series will get to enjoy being armchair generals for the first time.â€
With new features such as the commander unit, four person online multiplayer gaming and a 3D view of the battlefield, Miltary Madness has been modernized to meet the needs of today’s gamer without straying from the strategic elements that earned the original version awards for the “Best Military Strategy Game†and “Best War Game†within a year of its release. For those who want to know who is the “best of the bestâ€, detailed stat-tracking leaderboards can be reviewed online.
Saw this over at Gaf. Woo hoo! One of my all time favorite TG-16 games. I played the shit out of this one. I really hope they balance the maps better for multiplayer than they did with the original!
I think the addition of 4 player multiplayer has me the most excited. I'm somewhat surprised that this isn't getting much attention here. Military Madness is one of the grandaddy's of console based TB strategy. And still one of the best.
This is great news considering that the US never got a single Nectaris game outside of Military Madness.
Could you give us some more info on what sorta game this is? I wiki'd it but I'm not getting much.
Turnbased, Hex movement... is it sorta like Panzer General? Cause that would be awesome.
Advance Wars in space with hex based grid instead of square.
One of the main things about Nectaris that seperates it from Advance Wars is its Zone of Control system. It means units have an effect on every hex around them, they can provide support fire, block enemy movement and give bonuses whenever an enemy is completely surrounded. It allows for some interesting tactics as well as giving you incentive to care about all your units, as ZoC for the purposes of area control and surround bonuses apply even if the units can't fire at eachother. It doesn't have factories (you can capture buildings with units in them, that you can use to repair units) and it lacks the presentation values of Advance Wars, which is a pity because really, it's a great game.
As for this remake, music so far seems pretty awful, it got some interface improvements making the interface even better than that of Neo Nectaris. It'll be interesting to see how well multiplayer plays. No new singleplayer levels announced is disappointing. I really wish this will sell well so Hudson allows for something more than a simple remake, but Military Madness being released on VC already might hurt the sales of this a bit.
Gameplay video here, note the new GUI allowing you to see unit stats on the main screen and the friendly ZoC display at 1:00. Gametrailers has a video too but it doesn't show much interesting.
Edit: Also anyone who likes Nectaris really should try to find a way to play Earth Light, Neo Nectaris and the DOS port of Nectaris.
First off: the single player experience. The game comes with all 32 classic missions from the original TurboGrafx-16 version of the game (that’s 16 missions for the normal campaign and another 16 for the advanced campaign). The single player component of the game is essentially a remake of the spectacular original game. Of course, we’ve got the prerequisite spiffy new graphics and built-from-the-ground-up AI. While the first missions will go quickly, I feel comfortable saying that you can expect to spend 20 to 30 hours in the single player campaign alone.
And then there’s the multiplayer! I wish I could go into more detail about this here… but there’s just no room (in this post, anyway). For now, you’ll have to settle for a quick overview. We support (deep breath): online and local play (with controller share) for up to four players; 10 original multiplayer maps, designed specifically for either 2, 3, or 4 players; AI-controlled opponents; scoreboard matches with competitive settings; 10 Vehicle Upgrades and 10 Support Abilities for the brand-new and highly versatile Commander squad; free-for-alls and team games; and all the other bells and whistles you’d expect from a modern online game (voice chat, invites, etc.). Even after putting well over 100 hours into the multiplayer game, I’m still having tons of fun with it and I can’t wait to test my skills online against all of you!
Finally, we’ve got the most comprehensive manual you’ll find on a downloadable title that will help you understand all the ins and outs of the game.
Summer 09 is as specific as I can get at the moment [regarding the release date]… but we’re in the home stretch!
There will be a demo that will come out around the time of the game’s release. If you have any doubts, try before you buy (but be warned, you’ll probably end up buying)!
I loved the Turbografx 16 and military madness was one of my favorites but backbone broke my heart with Gunstar heroes already.
I guess my question would be if they’ve learned from Gunstar Heroes and will make sure the online works this time.

After you play your first match online, I have no doubt your heart will be mended!
so, looks great and coming soon. hopefully the online does actually work this time around. backbone is pretty damn shoddy sometimes.
That was awesome video.
This they have really added new features that has never seen before,

I like to buy this game.Does any one know the free source this game?

I need more strategy games on XBLA, what with my comp out of order and all.

It would be sweet if all three consoles could play against each other, and they kept a "console wars" tally of wins and losses per console.

Now if we can just get Daisenryaku, I'll be a totally happy Sheep.
I think it was given a release date the end of this month (Sept 29th I think?)
And Sheep, wtf are you talking about? If you're toying with me, so help me god...
But it's not the Panzer General you know and love.
