Extremely simple software to take samples and make music
I'm looking for some free software that will allow me to take samples I make, WAV format, and plonk them down on a multiple track interface, then click play and preview the song before adding more to it. Programs like Fruity Loops provide this functionality, but I'm not sure what to call it, so I haven't had much luck Googling it.
All of the programs I HAVE found haven't been simple enough: Too much functionality that I don't need and that add to the complexity of using that program. Does anyone have any suggestions for absurdly simple, toy-like sample based music software? I guess I'm looking for the Windows Movie Maker of music making.
(Just in case anyone thinks to suggest it, I'm not looking for a Tracker like Modplug.)
Seconding Audacity. If you get some of the good user created plugins, it's one of the best audio editing programs out there and rivals the stuff you'll pay 30 bucks for. And it's free.
Everywhereasign on
"What are you dense? Are you retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman!"
Audacity doesn't let you quickly and easily place audio samples anywhere on the timeline that you want, for example. It's more of a drag and drop interface that I'm looking for.

Essentially, I'm looking for a very simple and free software that'll let me do this:
