The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Fez is a forthcoming platforming game developed by independent software developers Polytron. Fez won the "Excellence in Visual Art" award at the Independent Games Festival in 2008. The game was also nominated for the "Design Innovation" award.
Fez features 2D/3D perspective shifts in a manner similar to Super Paper Mario and Crush. The use of Escher-like optical illusions also predominates gameplay in a manner similar to Echochrome.
It looks like it is the kind of game I would like to play.
I remember when I first saw video of this...was it last year or the year before? Not sure. But it still looks very cool, and I take it we still don't know what system(s) it'll be on?
The green A button in the trailers might indicate 360, but they have a game available for download whose only in-game instructions use 360 controller buttons.
Nope, not the same guy who did Cave Story, he just took the art style it seems, unless Pixel moved to Montreal from Japan.
Looks fun, and if they charge for it, I shall buy
I don't know. Apart from the fact that it's pixels the art style is pretty different from cave story in a lot of ways. And it's not like cave story invented that style. And they will be charging for it, but noone has said anything about what platform it is going to be released on. It does look smashing though.
I'm hoping this comes out sooner rather than later, I can use it to break up some of the FPS I'm about to tear through (Resistance1/2, Killzone2, UT3, etc.)
The characters look like the bunny people in Cave Story.
If you discount the shape of the head, the shape of the body, the lack of ears and the lack of clothing then yes, I suppose they look somewhat similar to the bunny people (at least the ones without distinct facial features) in that they are both white and hairless with dark eyes. Nontheless the character from Fez is still very distinct from them and is animated in a very different style. The use of bright colours and the "rectangular" styling of Fez is also completely different from Cave Story's more dark and muted colours and organic shapes, so I really don't see how you can call this game's style a rip-off of Cave Story's, much less one that's "blatantly" so.
I have been stoked for this since it was initially announced. Someone told me it had been canceled and I was incredibly disappointed. I'm terribly pleased to know that rumours of its demise were greatly exaggerated.

I never asked for this!
But damn if it doesn't look interesting.
The art certainly seems familiar.
No idea on pricing yet.
No, don't think there is any direct connection to Cave Story.
Looks fun, and if they charge for it, I shall buy

One of the threads needs the following pictures in the OP:
photoshop them together first.
Still like the music.
Still like the gameplay aspects.
Still think the developers should be ashamed for ripping off Cave Story's art style so blatantly.
Because every game that uses pixel graphics is obviously ripping off Cave Story.
That's exactly what I said.
And damn, how did this thread beat me? I searched everywhere! (But not here apparently)
Doesn't matter in the slightest if the game plays great.
Well other than the use of pixel graphics the art styles are in fact very different, so what else could you have meant?

edit: also, I really like the gimmick of this game and I would like to play it ASAP. I really hope they release it on the PC so I can play it.

Official site proudly exclaims:
“FEZ IS COMING TO XBOX LIVE ARCADE EARLY 2010”
I have been stoked for this since it was initially announced. Someone told me it had been canceled and I was incredibly disappointed. I'm terribly pleased to know that rumours of its demise were greatly exaggerated.
It'd better be.
Did they ever actually announce a platform before now?
