S-rank?

SkyEyeSkyEye Registered User regular
edited March 2009 in Games and Technology
Ace Combat, Advance Wars, and a whole bunch of other games use the term "S-rank," above "C," "B," and "A" to indicate a well done mission. Googling the term only gives examples of this, with no explanation of its meaning. Does anyone here have any idea? Is it like the Japanese version of "A+" or something?

I always thought it was either Super or Special.
All I know is that it's better than A.
When I had As in school, I was happy.
Not anymore. Little did I know there was a grade above.

Though, in school, you don't want your grade to be "Special".

Nah, devs ask themselves "What's the most awesome thing, ever?"

Answer: "Locking S-foils in attack position."

By analogy the most awesome rank is S-rank.

Same here. In a lot of school arts competitions I remember the scale was:

    Superior
    Excellent
    Good
    Fair
    Poor

Superior were usually fairly rare and not every event used "poor" as many competitions were invitation only and they didn't exactly invite those who would perform poorly.
