Looking for space shooter game used to be an advertisement link on PA site
There is this space shooter i'm trying to find..
At one point it was featured as a Advertisement on Penny Arcade's main page.
You shoot asteroids for resources.. build your huge base up to hopefully get back to your own planet.
In the meantime you take down bad guys.. and even mother ships.
Anyone heard of it ? For some reason the word "Stardock" seems familiar but turns up nothing..
Do you actually shoot the asteroids or do is it an RTS in space? Or did you give commands to the ship? Did you actually play the game or are you just going from the ad?
Also Stardock is a developer and publisher, so I'm not surprised the name is in your mind.

The opening scene of that movie immediately made me think of Homeworld, the Gardens of Kadesh. And I remembered nightmares of trying to fight waves of spiraling fighters, the only hope of winning coming from destroying fuel pods, around a mothership who, from the front looked like a flat disk... but was in fact, the biggest fucking ship ever. Gah.
I liked Starscape. In the demo, Survival mode is what got me hooked. You could instantly upgrade your ship to have some crazy weapons in a short amount of time, or time the upgrade when you're low on health so it gets restored.
To second Cantido, Survival mode is really what makes the demo worth it; the rest of the demo really fails to show off the best parts of the gameplay and feels significantly worse than the actual game. Despite being less than impressed by the demo, I bought the game anyway and didn't regret it. Once you start getting into the second sector and beyond, the battles start becoming truly epic, frantic affairs as every enemy in the sector starts bearing down on you and the capital ships become capable of completely ruining your day. On top of that, I found the ship customization to be surprisingly meaningful; you can't just toss everything you want on there, or it'll handle like a cow.
The comparisons to Star Control II aren't totally inaccurate, but there are differences. Starscape is much more focused around swarm combat with not nearly as much social interaction. There's nothing wrong with this; the two games just have very different feelings. My main complaint with the game is that capital ships don't respawn, so after a while, the sector calms down and there's not as much to do.

I got it, and I got bored before finishing it. I don't really recommend it.
I would consider it star control lite.
