NOLF 2 was good, and then there was Contact J.A.C.K., which was supposed to take place between the two NOLF games. I never played that though.

    Oh, it seems not.

NOLF2 cleaned up the interface a lot, simplified the gadgets and stuff.
It also introduced a RPG-style levelling system which was ok.

The writing and level design is almost as good as the original, but there wasn't the variety of stuff as the first (space, underwater etc). If you were a fan of NOLF you definitely need to play it though.

I'm pretty sure some of the henchmen voices were done by the same guy who voices henchman 24 in Venture Brothers (or 21, one of the 20s...)

Also speaking of older games that are awesome, I am replaying SOTN this week. I have not played a Castlevania game since SOTN and Castlevania 64 (I forget which I played first), so it's been around ten years. I am pleased, although not entirely surprised, to find that it pretty much holds up to what I remember.

Man is that a short game when you vaguely remember where to go, though. That's to be expected, but I was surprised it clocked in for me at under 2 hours.

SOTN was the first game I bought via Xbox LIVE Arcade.

now somebody make me a version that is portable (isn't there a PSP Castlevania that has SOTN with it or something?) and I'll be set. The DS and GBA games are cool enough to be really similar though.

Really? I don't know, I'm doing the 200.6% coverage or whatever, I've been playing for like 4 or 5 hours and I'm still in the first castle. I have also pretty much completely forgotten where everything is.

The one flaw I do remember, though, is that it's way too easy to level up to the point where you're a superbeast. I am trampling bosses in one shot, and I haven't even attempted to powerlevel. I am benig thorough about where I go, but I'm not grinding or anything. Hopefully the beginning of the next castle will be tougher.

Have you tried Prince of Persia? Especially the SNES version by Konami? Or the PC version of Prince 1 or 2, those are also good.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, not the Konami PoP. The version of Prince of Persia on the Sands of Time disc is basically the PC version 1.0. It's a decent port.

Yeah, that shield is kind of a late-game item, though. I had some other ridiculous items like Crissaegrim back when I first played. It was this sword that did like 80 damage, except there was no attack animation, so you could just walk around with it swinging in front of you constantly. Plus, it would swing in a wide arc, not just a narrow line like other weapons. And, of course, each button-press would make it do like ten swings in a second. So you pretty much had an on-demand cloud of whirling swords in front of you.

But that was super-late-game, like, well after you should have beaten it.

That was the first LIVE purchase I made. And yes, Ubi's logo is plastered all over that shit up until you get into the actual game.

It was odd... I actually missed the NES version since it had a couple of added stages like the one in the inexplicable Japanese house with the white tiger murals that came to life. Oh, and the absurd PIZZA HUT plugs. Apparently there are several Pizza Hut locations in April O'Neil's apartment building.

    Man that game was tits.

Not really, it was dropped by Schmoos in the second castle library, which was only of the first areas you could go in there. And they weren't that hard to kill!

Play the SNES one, it's the best.

Seeing shit like this makes me wonder how much money nintendo would make if instead of selling a Wii they sold a stripped down version of it that had no DVD player or waggle and that only played old games available at the Nintendo Store.

Cause while I wouldn't buy a Wii I would sure as shit buy that.

I would buy, like, a full VC machine with all those old consoles and full game libraries.

Really, though? Probably not as much money, because the Wii is easier to market as a "new toy" type of thing.

EDIT: Machine should be like $100-$150.

The Wii doesn't have a DVD player
Also the biggest problem with a lot of old game releases is the incredibly complicated rights issues
Especially when dealing with licenses and third party ports
