Basically, as the title says i’m looking for some new music to listen to since i love finding new music that i like (who doesn't, eh?), so I thought it might be a good idea to open a thread here asking for recs. :P
Anyways, lately I’ve been a lot less into the darker rock/metal stuff than i used to be, and have really been getting into ~lighter~ stuff, so i’m sorta looking for stuff similar to Dredg, The Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, Modest Mouse, and Doves, i guess? I'm pretty open to anything though.
Here’s my lastfm page if it’s of any use: riversoftheday

One band I love to death, but will admit they arn't for everybody (though should be) is Love You Long Time. Great Indy band from Rexburg, Idaho. (I know them and they are really are pretty cool).
Try "I Don't Party like I used to", the video is kinda goofy, but eh, thats what they are.
the rest of their music on Youtube isnt the greatest quality, you can go to their myspace page though and I'd check out the songs "Power" and "Dream Killer 2.0" as well.
You can't go wrong with Bon Iver, Pedro the Lion, Eisley, or the Format
Cool. I'm pretty sure my eldest brother likes Bon Iver since he's had it playing before (in the car) and sung Skinny Love (poorly) before. :P I like that.
Also, i know one of my friends likes The Format and i checked it out and i was wondering which of their albums sounds the most like the song Sore Thumb by them 'cause i like that song a fair bit. Eisley sounds nice enough, and i'm gonna check them out further. Pedro The Lion is nice, too actually. Just not something i can really get into.
Alright, now I'm in front of my main machine with all my music, heres my suggestions conveniently alphabetized.
Black Rebel Motorcycle club, City And Colour, some Damien Jurado, Elbow, Jeff Buckley, Levi Weaver, The O's, People In Planes, Pilot Seed, Pilotdrift, The Secret Machines, and Wilco could all be worth your time.
House of House - Rushing To Paradise (Walking These StreetS)
Ryan Leslie - Gibberish
Gorilla Zoe - Lost
Jim Jones ft Ryan Leslie - Precious
K.I.G. - Head Shoulders Knees n Toes
The Dream - Rockin That Shit
The Juan Maclean - One Day
Kid Cudi - Day n Nite
The Dream - Mr Yeah
YV - Own Step
Lily Allen - Chinese
Keri Hilson ft Timbaland - Return the Favor
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Hysteric
Fever Ray - Seven
Young Dro - Clean With It
Q-Tip ft Busta Rhymes, Raekwon, Lil Wayne - Renaissance Rap
Jamie Foxx ft T-Pain - Blame it (On the Alcohol)
Lady Sovereign - So Human
Hrm, it's more generalised, and apologies if anybody already mentioned it, but recently i've been getting into netlabel music, where the artists are releasing stuff under creative commons- great examples that i like (YMMV) are Suhov's album, Symphaty Modul, and Professor Kliq's The Scientific Method Volume II. If you check out www.phlow-magazine.com, they have fairly frequent writeups on the newer netlabel releases, and a lot of genres are covered- Suhov and Prof. Kliq are more sample- based electronica, but there's rock, hip hop, indie etc., so hopefully you might find something that you like. Best of all, they're free!
Sorry if bumping this one month later is against the rules or something, I just wanted to thank everyone for their reccomendations..
Anywayz, i've listened to most (and will continue to listen to them when I feel in the mood for new music, along with checking out that D&D thread and such) and I've absolutely fallen in love with Margot & The Nuclear So and So's and People In Planes so far (a lot of the other ones interest me, i just haven't fully listened to them yet).
So thanks, a ton, again, for the reccomendations guys.

The other stuff also sounded pretty good, just not stuff i can really get into, i guess. I might listen to them all over again tomorrow.

Sweet! Haha. I can see some similarities.
Band Of Horses is good. I like Is There A Ghost a lot. Also, No One's Gonna Love You.
And, yeah, Love You Long Time probably isn't for me. =/ Nice band name, though. :P
