Point + click games for my Mom

My Mom has been asking me about point and click games, and I have no idea what to recommend. She calls them 'hidden object games', so I think she is looking for stuff that is fairly simple (as opposed to a Longest Journey or King's Quest, for example).

I can see there are a ton of sites that offer free games of this nature, but do not want to send her to any sites loaded with malware. I also want to encourage the gaming habit by suggesting stuff that is actually decent quality.

Does anybody have suggestions? The ideal would be a site with loads of half-decent free games, but she is not averse to a small monthly subscription (in the $5 range). If there are any titles which can be purchased in-store, that is fine too, assuming the price is low.

Her computer is a 5-6 year old eMachine running Windows xp.

for point and click "hidden objects" games she's talking about Mystery Case Files. The game play is actually finding specific hidden objects in the level. I played the one for the DS, it was pretty addictive. The company is legit. The games aren't free, but they aren't pricey either.

Your mom may be talking about games that simulate the Eye Spy books, like so:

The most popular one right now is the Mystery Case Files series. My sister has been playing it and it's pretty cool for casuals.

If you're talking about point and click adventure games then I'd recommend some of Yahtzee's stuff, the Trilby games in particular for the great story line. They're also free but you can donate if you choose to.

Thanks for the suggestions - Mystery Case Files and bigfishgames sound like exactly what she is looking for. I am going to browse through kongregate for myself.

One of my favourite ones, though slightly more complex than just finding stuff (have to interact with things) was Escape the Museum (http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/3039/escape-the-museum/index.html)

    Other shiny good games include
    Mystery of the Crystal Portal
Samantha Swift and the Hidden Roses of Athena (also amazingly good and slightly more than just hidden object)
    Mystery Legends: Sleepy Hollow
... I'm sure there are more but those are a few that come to mind
