That doesn't mean I'll be playing it in 48 hours, though. :P
Name on Steam is also Enns.
That is crazy.
This would be nice for me too.
I LIKE TO BE LOVED!
There are several Enns on Steam community, which one are ya'?
EDIT: never mind found ya
Yaaaay.
Thanks as well.
HEY!
GLAD I COULD BE OF SERVICE!
Hang on to your computer chair bucko, because it is tunnels all the way down!
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
I ALSO ENJOY CAPS LOCK! IT'S CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL!
Yeah that was a pretty great read. Pretty much sums up my feelings towards modern-day PC gaming (If it ain't on Steam, don't bother). Although referring to EA's digital store as a competitor was a bit... odd. Is it even still up now that EA just distributes their games through Steam?
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
I like that too.
Yeah it's still up. I was going to talk more about EA and Microsoft and what they're currently up to, but it was already getting huge at that point and I wanted to try and keep the focus on Steam. I also wanted to add in some stuff about how it's another channel for the indie market. There was an awesome quote in EDGE recently where one of the Introversion guys said that going up on Steam pretty much helped save the company.
Although I suspect Cliffski would pummel me mercilessly for any implications along those lines. :P
I KISS YOU!
Because if you want to play TF2 you just join the server, but if you want to play L4D you have to find people.
But what about the whole metagame of being in Steam chat more than actually in Steam games?
I KISS YOU!
I wasn't aware of that metagame, but I guess that's what the TF2 thread is for.
On the plus side, it added itself to the Games Explorer and launching it from there works with the Steam overlay. That's the only Steam game I've played that does that. To test the "improved GFW integration" from a while back, I downloaded the Conflict Denied Ops emo and while it did add itself to the Games Explorer there was no overlay when launched from there.
GFWL is persistent and you are connected even when in single player mode, much like playing on the 360. That way people can see what you play and send you invites and chats and nonsense. Also: Achievements.
I KISS YOU!
So in other words, it's basically steam community, except no one uses it
And at one point before it was patched it caused Fallout 3 to crash when it tried to log in so I disabled it and will never use it again.
And it ate savegames in Gears of War.
No one except everyone on Xbox Live.
Considering this is the Steam / Source thread, I think he probably meant on the PC side.
It's all the same service. If you have friends on Xbox Live, you can interact with them from your PC via GFWL.
Indeed you can. The problem is that there's little point. Cross-player games are virtually non-existant and nobody's interested in making them anymore. And for what games exist on the PC that actually make use of GFWL's multiplayer architecture, people still seem to prefer to use Steam for organising games because it's more convenient. GFWL could actually improve a great deal if MS would just release an external GFWL client, but so far that hasn't materialised, you need to be in-game to access your GFWL friends list. I've heard some people mention you can also access this from MSN messenger, but I think that's just a rumour. Anyone care to confirm?
Meanwhile logging into GFW Live on your PC automatically logs you out of XBL, which is frequently a pain for people who do want to make use of both services.
Seriously, on the PC side of things, people aren't too interested in using GFW Live just yet.
EDIT: I mean really, I tried hitting up the GFW Live forums recently. Talk about bitter. Their chief hobby over there is literally taking Kotaku posts that mention Steam and castigating them for being such retarded fanboys. It extends so far that they even outright despise Valve and Valve games in general. It's really bizarre to see in action to be honest.
Has there been a comparison between Braid for Windows and Braid for 360 yet? I never bothered to try the demo on 360, but the Steam demo has me hooked and I want it so very, very bad. I just don't know which system to buy for.
I would settle for a freaking push-to-talk button, which GFWL still doesn't allow for. Look, I don't care how superior you may or may not think alltalk is but push-to-talk's been a staple on the PC for around a decade now, we have enough buttons that we can afford to spare one, at least the option should be made available.
I don't need to be dealing with crap like this on a constant basis:
