Out with the old, in with the new (consoles)

So, I was a sheltered kid and never owned a video game console. My first was the 360 I bought after graduating college, and I've never had to deal with the process of changing consoles.

A friend moved away recently, and I helped buy him a 360 as a going away present. This has resulted in another member of the social network deciding he's going to stop bumming around on my 360 and pick up his own. He currently has a wii (he wants to keep) and the following that he'd like to unload: Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, Nintendo DS and games to go with all of them. The immediate answer is just to hock everything on Gamestop, but I'm trying to encourage him to be patient and craigslist them. Will he get any reasonable value on all those items if he trades them in to GS towards the purchase of a new 360? If we go the other way, does anyone have any tips on craigslisting gaming stuff?

What is this I don't even.

    A quick call to your local Gamestop will let you know how much he would get for all that stuff. My guess is little to barely anything. If what they offer sounds reasonable to your friend, go for it I guess. Easy solution.

    I don't have any tips for selling stuff on craigslist, except selling things seperately will usually net you more than selling as a bundle.

    Gamestop has a policy of not giving out trade-in values over the phone; we tried that one already. My assumption is that this adds to the pressure sale.

    Sell things separately. If you're selling on craigslist, state in the ad that you're selling for cash only and local pickup only then meet the person in a starbucks or a bank or some place similar. For these kind of items I would go with eBay since they're smaller and cheaper and generally not worth the time of meeting 50 people for the sales. Just list them all on eBay with the same ending time and you can ship them all off at once.

    He'll probably get more on craigslist - since the TIVs for those at gamestop is like nothing at this point.

    They don't even take Xbox stuff any more.

    lol thats actually a bullshit answer. we just dont want to spend 20 minutes on the phone with someone we do it all the time with customers with one or two games

    cube= $12
    ps2= $40ish (slim) $30ish (large)
    ds= $20 (org) $30ish (lite)
    ds games= actually a decent amount usually a 3rd of what we sell them for
    ps2 games= sports are nickles and dime, obscure hard to find rpgs are in the $5-$10 range
    cube games= if it says mario expect more then $5 otherwise its hit or miss

    Using that information from stawk I'd say either put it up on craigslist or ebay the whole lot for ~$200.

    I would only go to Gamestop as a last resort, or if your friend is eager to get rid of everything. They are known for giving you hardly any money, then jacking the price up to NEW-5$.

    Try Ebay first with a few games and see how you like it. Then if your getting good deals, sell everything there.
