I just got a new camera, and it records videos, but as .mov. I've found a converter, to change the files over to .avi, but the file sizes are huge when converted. I'm wondering if there's a way I can compress the files to a reasonable size (so small enough to put on youtube, etc). I think I might have found a way to compress with the program I have, but the file size is still rather large. Can anyone lend some help?

WARNING: i have not used this myself so i can not give any more advice than a lot of other people seemed to get good compression out of it
I'm assuming this is for Windows usage, in which case, WMV is easily your best bet if you are looking for a small file size.
Sony Vegas is a decent tool with trial period. I think they make a cheap version of it for under $100 but I am not sure.
Outside of that, you can try getting Quicktime Pro ($20), and see what encoding options are available for you, but I know it won't do WMV.
You can theoretically make a MOV pretty small.
