Volume is strangely low on this computer?

I'm on a computer in my school's computer lab, and all of the volume settings I can find are all the way up, the volume on youtube or whatever site I'm on is all the way up also, but the music is really quiet in my headphones. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

    Make sure you open the Options in the Volume Control applet and ensure that both Master and Wave are cranked up.

    Failing that, are you sure you're plugged into a powered output and not a line-level one designed only for speakers with their own amplification?
