So I was looking for some freeware software that would let me draw some floor plans for my new place, and one of the ones I tried seems to have affected me with some malware. It installed a program called GOplayer and now all my search engine searches get redirected. The problem is that it seems to also be redirecting searches to remove malware. can anyone help me out?

If you have access to another computer with a cd burner, Avira has a boot-disk thingymajig that works well (it basically makes a bootable CD with a mini-linux and antivirus program in it). Between it and MalwareBytes I've killed the Antivirus200x virus 4 or 5 times (I just realized what a silly statement that is -- but honestly, I got re-infected each time, it wasn't the same one!)
Rename the MalwareBytes executable file to something else, then run it (in safe mode w/ networking, so you can update it). If that doesn't work, try running Combofix in safe mode first. Download links:
Your solution is ComboFix. Friend had the EXACT same problem (SBS&D not working, google redirecting, etc) and this did the trick.
Make sure to run ComboFix as an Administrator and you should be golden.
This nasty little bug you have is quite pervasive, and it really fucks with any sort of anti-virus or anti-malware you throw at it. Luckily CF attacks the infection at a very basic, "core," level where it can't defend itself.
It's a good thing you got it. Keep it on a Flash drive with you for handy situations like this.
Glad to hear it was solved for you. And I'll definitely second having a flash drive handy with those files from now on, it's usually my go-to move when people I know are having trouble.
Actually, I don't think you can store ComboFix on a flash drive for more than a few weeks. Last time I did it, it refused to run, telling me I had to download a more recent version. I think it has a built-in expiration timer.

That's a download from MS for malware removal that's constantly updated and free. Might be your best bet.
If you have trouble downloading it I could download the file and email it to you. Just post here if you need that.
seems to be blocked. shoot it to mishra42@gmail.com if you can. Thanks

I tried the windows program, some spyware removal programs, and another antivirus and they can't find shit.

Edit: I'd suggest using MalwareBytes to anyone that needs good malware removal, but apparently they've removed the free edition.
Edit2: I still have the installer! Try this instead: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=7980cc8d570f9204e7c82ed4b8f0c380e04e75f6e8ebb871
MalwareBytes is much better. Grab the mbam-setup file and you should be all set. It's always come through for me.
hmm it installed, but now it doesn't run the actual software, even in safe mode. have any suggestions how to figure out what i've even got?
