Get stuck by birds?
For me, it isn't what they've done lately, but what they've done already. Bioware likes to talk about being the first to do a big story in an MMO with Old Republic, but Asheron's Call was doing that nine (coming on ten) years ago.
LotRO is awesome, and unfortunately doesn't get the respect WoW does.
And while DDO was a failure, the game did a lot for the genre that others should have paid attention to.

...then I actually followed the link and saw that Turbine made it to the final round somehow. o_O
Beating Sega, Naughty Dog, Bethesda, Valve and Nintendo. I'm not all over Nintendo's or Valve's dicks, but that result is fucking impossible.
It's like a weird freaky twilight zone forum.
My god.
Turbine... who the hell's even heard of Turbine before this contest?
Clearly not you!
And anyone who launches LOTRO to play it gets this contest as part of the news items on the launcher page.
There's also a popup before you see this that has the contest as the first item. So basically Turbine is mobilizing the fanbase to vote.
My personal hat-tip would go to any one of those developers, I don't even know who Turbine are
That LotR thing just proves my point.
Well, clearly. But uh... with you doing CoH and DoW 2 shoutcasts all the time, I can't imagine you're all up in their MMO crib either!
Nooooooooooo!
Now that makes me feel like my vote counts!
**3962 v. 3963.
I dunno. The earlier TES games were revolutionary for the procedural generation, and Morrowind was an AMAZING game in terms of scope, setting and art direction. But then they took the Morrowind approach to Oblivion but made it the most generic and bland setting imaginable.
You're being sarcastic, right?
They struck gold with Zero Punc. but since that's slowly dieing off in terms of popularity, and because every other series on their site is absolute shit, they're looking for something to draw in the hits. This Best Developer thing was another strike gold, because it had the whole gaming community falling over itself to get their pet developers to the top, with little to no debate as to who were actual good developers (Turbine beat Valve, yeah no.)
So what you got to ask yourself is, what do they do when this is done?
I've got a John Romero.
You, sir, have just hit a nail on its head. Really, they'll do anything and I'll just sort of chuckle (I kind of expected the current situation when they first announced this whole March Mayhem thing), look away awkwardly as if I've just seen someone I vaguely know do something embarassing, and go to watch amusing videos two times a week. Not that I don't like some of what they have going.
Did I come on too strongly with it? Eh.
Though I find it funny that those are/were/were supposedly the actual numbers.
I'm more amazed that they beat Valve
That is so completely and utterly backwards that I can't comprehend it
And I really liked Lord of the Rings Online!

What happened?

See the first page, Turbine dropped a PR bomb on the vote.
Every once and a while I go through and watch all their zero punctuation videos. I believe there he described awards as something websites give out while both developers and players ignore them.
That makes even less sense because Lord of the Rings Online has like, two hundred players
