Possible Account Theft?

Ok so a few days ago I had to do a complete system restore on my computer, and since I hadnt backed up my itunes files, I lost them all. Not a huge deal honestly, because the majority of my music I didnt have to purchase on itunes.

So I reinstall itunes, and am looking around the menus when I see "Check for Purchases". Thinking that it couldnt hurt to try, I select it, and itunes begins to download 11 songs that I have never heard of, and definately never bought. The help menu said check for purchases is used to finishing downloading songs you bought that got interrupted.

So I let one of them download, and listen to it, just to make sure. But before I can play it, I have to authorize my computer to do it. The only way this is involved is I guess if someone else used my card to purchase music to their computer?

And I forgot to mention, I do use my debit card to purchase music, so the real question is, was my number somehow stolen?

Well have you checked your monthly statements to see if your card had any iTunes purchases? If not then, then what most likely happened is your iTunes account was automatically entered in one of Apple's free downloads giveways, which happens to me sometimes, and they are crap songs, and you can choose not to download its free songs, but I think that it does it automatically everytime you install itunes.

Yeah I was about to go online to check my balance, when I thought to check what day the songs were purchased. Ends up they were purchased just under a month before my account was even opened. Granted, I did purchase songs before that occasionally by using my parent's credit card, however it is hard for me to believe that if a person stole the number they would spend 11 bucks then call it a day.

And I just realized that they are all the same genre (rap/hip hop), which would make sense if they were in a giveaway. Granted two are explicit, which seems strange to me (would apple really give away explicit songs?), but regardless, I feel a lot better about it. Thanks
