Gametype: Mech FPS/RPG
Style: Persistant character "MMO", lobby style games.
Game Modes: Deathmatch, Team DeathMatch, Strategic point capture.
Price: Free!! With micropayments for weapon/part expansions.
I was skimming through google looking for any new mech games, and came upon this little gem of a game from ncsoft. As it has just entered closed beta(applications appear to already be open), and I have not yet been able to try it, I am basically just giving a rundown on what info they have given.
But basically it appears to be a
free (with micropayments for more powerful items/skills), "MMOFPSRPG" style mech game. It appears to be very reminiscent of Gunz: The Duel, both in basic gameplay concept, and in how it is an "mmo", as it is basically just a FPS with persistent characters, and mini-expansions of new parts and weapons. But with mechs!
It will support pretty much full customization of your mech, with multiple parts for all the differant slots (torso, head, arms, ect ect), allowing for multiple game play styles.
The skills as far as I can tell, seem to be melee moves you can do to the enemy, and some assorted gunfu. One example I found was a move; that has you impale the enemy with your sword to immobilize them, and then unload an SMG into the head of their mech.

/end crappy attempt at first OP.
Personally I can't wait for this to come out/to get into the beta. I've been waiting awhile for another good mech game to come out. Hopefully it won't get ruined the same way chromehounds did, with the majority exploiting the build system.
tl;dr - big mechs, explosion goodness, basically free, not out yet.

Dungeon Runners follows the same logic, it hasn't been tried before (at least, not in the Western world) so I am curious if people will pick it up.
It all depends on how much they charge. IMHO, they need a clear, cheap pricing model first and foremost. No recurring charges, either, unless it is a screaming good deal.
Oh, and if I see them doing some sort of MS-style "points bundle" (ie, you can only buy a bunch of points that costs more than an individual purchased item is worth), I'll be pissed. That jive has got to go.
> turn on light
Good start to the day. Pity it's going to be the worst one of your life. The light is now on.
Even the fast-and-arcadey Zone of the Enders series helps convey a feeling of power and mass behind the machines, due to some very solid combat animations, which this game also seems to lack.
For my Korean mecha action fix, I'm personally keeping an eye open on SD Gundam: Capsule Fighter, which apparently is in beta testing now. The irony is that the comedy tinker-toy versions of the mechs in SD Gundam seem to move with more weight and purpose than what I'm seeing in those Exteel videos.
Actually I hope it kicks ass because I've been dying for a GunZ type fix, especially since that game went downhill.
I am reminded of Shogo MAD on speed, especially with the city levels.
I originally heard about Exteel game when signing up for Richard Garriot's Tabula Rasa beta (signups are open btw).
To be honest Exteel looks awsome .... I'm curious though how many of you would be willing to pay to build your dream mech? The game client itself is going to be free .... but you'll have to build your mech piece by piece if I understand things right.
Still, if you go into the game with the mentality of "I'm going to spend 40 dollars to build the mech I want" you'd be spending about what the cost of a retail game is.
I signed up for the beta I want to give this a try. The trailers look awsome.
You'll find the movies from the OP in HD over at GameTrailers.
This one (anime) looks awsome:

Those mechs look like Gears.
In fact, I mistook one for a Gear.
(Heavy Gear, that is)
In the beta at least, you start off with a generic mech, swapping out parts as you get money/ranks.
Also, no flight, just 5-second high jumps with boosters.
So it's Planetside, but when you rank up you have to pay real money for the new equipment you get access to?
From what I've seen, you can get regular in-game money a la Gunbound, but it takes much longer to make a decent amount.

That's basically exactly what I was thinking when I watched the gameplay vids.
You're probably thinking of RF Online which is already out and available for download. However, there aren't any humans in it. You have Elf-like creatures who use magic, smallish kind of gnomecreatures who pilot large, robotic, suits, and then finally robots themselves. I tried it at one point but its sort of meh.
But yeah, they do share a rather close resemblance to one another. And it appears to be the 'super robot' sort of robot. For once I'd love to see an MMO with some big, hulking, realistic robots rather than super fast, super sleek, 'mega awesome ultimate ultra mighty power' robots.
