Fixing shower curtain rod

I was trying to install a new shower curtain and with 2 hooks left to go the fucking rod comes off.

The rod has 2 pieces of circular rubber that are supposed to go in either end. But when I try to put it back up, the rod simply is not long enough to touch both sides.

So how was it standing before?

materials- rod, detached rubber pieces. Two small wooden pads where the ends of the rods were apparently sitting but now it wont touch both of them.

Please help this has me fucking pissed and ready to beat puppies to death with the rod.

Is it one of those where you twist the middle it so it'll extend?

it's a ghetto piece of shit. Apart from the two rubber cap things, it has two metal appendages on either end that screw off (the rubber pieces go into those)

If it isn't a tension rod, just go buy one. Much easier than a fixed length rod.

Does it have a line in the middle of it, joining two segments?

    Two options:

    1. Buy a tension rod from Wal-Mart for $5-10 and take it when you leave.

    2. Ask your RA/roommate/neighbor to see his shower rod and figure out whats different than yours.

Place the plastic dodads at the end, unscrew the ends slightly until they push against the wall, thus, securing the rod in place.

Yeah, just try twisting it and see if it gets longer. It sounds like it's one of those.
