Verizon vs Iphone: The cellphoning

Currently I'm an alltel subscriber with a BB Pearl. I've never loved the phone, but I do enjoy the fact that I can install different apps for different websites. My wife and I are thinking about switching to Verizon so that we can continue having the my circle features, but I'm looking at their phones and so far the only phone that's catching my eye is the LG Dare. Do any of you have this phone and know how functional the web browsing is, or have better suggestions for Verizon phones? I really want to get an iphone, but I don't want to go through a different cell company just to get one since the circle calling is so nice. Suggestions on!

Edit: I'm also now considering a BB Storm. Anyone have one of those and like it/hate it?

I pinky swear that we will not screw you.

Being in a similar situation as you, Alltel switching to Verizon, I've poking around trying to gauge things...

I've heard alot of negative feedback on the Storm, and while I find the LG Dare looks nice, the featureset of the Samsung Omnia is far more appealing (5mp camera for instance)...

What I really want is the Samsung Memoir, but that's T-Mobile...

But yeah, given those two choices I'd probably hit the Dare... Though take a peak at the Omnia, see what you think... that's the one I'd really hit...

I don't know too much about it, but I've noticed that a huge amount of the negative criticism concerning the Storm seems to be that it isn't an iPhone. The one or two reviews I saw were pretty much going down the "it does this but the iPhone does it better THIS way" path. If you look at it as an iPhone replacement it is going to suck. If you look at it as a phone on its own, it's probably not bad.

supposedly Verizon will be getting the new iPhones that are being released either later this year or early next year, when their 4G network is officially launched.

Yeah, I'm just trying to find something that's going to have some nice functionality for web browsing and online apps, and I already know that BB devices have some decent apps. It's not going to rival the iphone certainly, but I do want it to have some decent web apps. I think I'm going to call Verizon and see if I can find out about them getting an iphone later on. If that's the case I'll just wait.

New question: has anyone actually used the Storm for long enough to like it or hate it? The reviews from when it was released are mostly unkind, and it seemed like the issues could be fixed easily enough with software updates. Are the release issues still current issues, or is the phone at a point where it's easy to enjoy?

My buddy at work has one, he LOVES it. It had some issues at launch, but those have been solved with firmware updates. I also have Chem with someone who has it and she also thinks the Storm hung the moon. She says she barely has to use her laptop anymore as it does such a great job browsing. Mind you, I don't have one, but I do know both these people and trust their judgment. I'm thinking about getting one myself when I'm upgrade eligible at the end of this month. Or when I get my fall loans as they're still expensive with a discount >.<

One plus over the iPhone in my opinion though, you can get Verizon Insurance on the Storm, so if anything happens to it you pay 50$ and just get a new one.

The LG Dare seemed alright but really, if you're going to spend that much, you might as well get the iPhone.

If only for the text messaging, since probably everyone you know has an iPhone, you won't be limited to 160 characters like you would be if you got a Verizon phone.

The dare is OK looking at first glance but compared to the Omnia it's pretty slow.

The best smart phone, in terms of numbers on paper, on verizon right now is the HTC diamond/HTC touch-pro (same phone with a physical kb)

Actually, most of the complaints I've heard from people about the Storm come from people hating the clicking touch screen. My wife gets them returned all the time at Best Buy for just that reason.

We went with the iPhone for ourselves for a lot of reasons. We were on Sprint for about two weeks, and while we loved the phones we had (I had the HTC Touch pro, the wife had a Blackberry Curve), the service was godawful. Verizon treated all of us Unicel customers in Vermont like second class citizens, so we decided that AT&T was our only option. And we've been very happy with that decision.

The biggest reason I don't want to get an iphone is that I want to stay with the same company as my wife to help keep the phone bill down. Plus if we're on verizon, like I said before, we'll both be able to have the circle calling which is awesome.

Looking at ATT's website for iphone plans, there's a good chance that I'm going to buy a refurb iphone and go with 900 minutes and 1500 texts. For the money, and considering what I want my phone to do, it looks like that's the best way to go. So, all that said, tell me how much you love your iphone.
