The harsher justice of the comics thread!

So I bought some trades Saturday-- Hellboy volumes six, seven and eight, and Lobster Johnson: The Iron Prometheus. Great stuff. Hellboy is a special thing to me. When I started buying comics again-- after previously only reading GI Joe from ages 4 to 13-ish, I started with some manga (blade of the immortal and Lone Wolf and Cub) and Hellboy.

I didn't really buy anymore manga after that. I still buy comics though. I don't want to turn this into a manga is the gayzaidz or whatever thread, just saying Hellboy is special to me. It's freaking great. It gets better with each trade. You should try it out.

The Lobster Johnson book is freaking amazing. Pulpy as hell, and totally awesome for it. The Lobster fights a goddamn Yeti by the fourth page! Not just any yeti either, a Yeti that is a damn yellow peril apocalyptic cult's strong-man! Seriously!

I haven't been to the actual comic store in about 3 weeks, thanks to my stupid job and the car being in the garage. Should have some sweet stuff waiting there-- Destroyer 1, Aaron's Wolverine book that sounds really great, probably some more Immortal Iron Fist by then, maybe another issue of Incognito...

Man, I really hope we do not already have a comics thread.

I was probably 4 when I got my first toy from the kid next door, and somewhere around the same time I got my first issue-- I think it was a special missions issue, issue 10 I think. It was probably old when I bought it. I would have only been 4 when that came out.

I can't even see that img, humble. I had to quote you and c&p it into a new tab to see it. I think it is probably something with my adblocker thing.

I've decided through trial and error that the X-men are not for me. I find them interesting and everything, I just have trouble keeping that many characters straight or caring about all of the soap opera-ish relationships.

Man, I want to read that crazy stuff. I really like the art I have seen, but what I have heard of the story-- basically something like the Real World meets the X-men-- is something off a turn-off for me.

Found this via GV. It'd be pretty interesting to see what Brubaker does with her if she does show up.

i wanted to talk about comics

who read the new Exiles? It was pretty great!

also Ignition City made me sad because i don't think warren ellis is ever gonna write like he used to again

its just all HERE IS SOME EXPOSITION EXPLAINING SMALL DETAILS OF THE STORY I GOT FROM SOMETHING I READ ON THE INTERNET

i dont know, maybe i would find his stuff more interesting if i didn't read his blog

also the artist's art loses a lot in the coloring process

Aetheric Mechanics (which was probably the last good thing he has written in a while) looked way better than this.

Ordered Nextwave volume 2 hardcover along with Planetary volume 2 and Immortal Iron Fist yesterday. Also Captain America Vol. 1: Winter Soldier because I've wanted to get into his stuff for a while and that is what Amazon recommended to me.

Now just to wait for it all to get here, thank god for Amazon Prime.

You can save a ton buying "nick and dent" at TFAW. I bought three or four of my Hellboy trades there. I couldn't find any nicks or dents at all on two of them. The other had a tiny, almost imperceptible little nick at the base of the spine.

Nick and Dent'd volume 1 is currently 60% off the cover price, for example.

Oh man, Absolute Planetary is still outrageously expensive. Ditto Absolute Authority vol 1. I wonder how long those copies have been for sale. Do people actually buy them when they are that expensive?

I have both of those, got them for less than 50 dollars each quite some time ago. I haven't read an issue of planetary since finishing the Absolute edition. Big surprise, the comically pulpy Doc Brass section with the parchment looking pages was my favorite.
I kept waiting to hear about him joining the team with the aid of some super science to fix his atrophied legs, but I don't think he ever did.

Funny, cute and creepy all at once!

Incognito #3 comes out this week!
THE BEST-SELLING AND AWARD-WINNING TEAM OF BRUBAKER AND PHILLIPS SHOW YOU WHY IT'S GOOD TO BE BAD! Her name is Ava Destruction, and she's the most "live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse" kind of girl you've ever met. Ava, one of the Black Death's top enforcers, and a woman who's perpetually 16 on the outside, is sent into Witness Protection after our hero and while she may be pretty... what she leaves in her wake is anything but.
    Mature Content/ No Ads ... $3.50

The perpetually 16 thing worries me. I have faith in Brubaker to not to do something exploitative, I hope it is well-placed.
