Installing Firewire On Laptop

I have a laptop with no firewire port. What is the best way to install one? USB? Or PCMCIA card? Or any other?

Thanks. Are there any makes that I should watch out for? I'm trying to do a little research but I've never looked for these before and I'm not sure what the duds are.

Newegg only has a few brands. There are 2 questions to ask, 1) Are you using Windows Vista? 2) Do you need standard Firewire 400 aka 1394a or do you need 800 aka 1394b?
