Credit Card Fraud and Credit Rating

Recently I was given a new credit card number and card because of some fraud on my account. This was on my oldest credit card, and was a good asset to my credit rating. Does this change of account number act like opening a new credit card? I'm worried that this incident killed my oldest example of credit.

Was there actually fraud? My credit card company had some security problem and just gave everyone a new card recently. It is still the same credit card though and the same company so you shouldn't have any problems.

I used to work with credit card fraud. If closing a credit account would make your credit disappear, everyone with bad credit would be closing accounts left and right to hide their bad credit. Don't sweat it, your credit is safe... or at least... the way you left it!

It's still the same line of credit with the same company. Switching the number won't affect your rating like closing a line of credit would. You'll be fine.
