Cake, the term painting is used for the manipulation of color within a format, which is why pastels, certain types of collage, etc. can be and is widely regarded as painting. However, I agree with you that trad. painting is a totally different skill to master, and there is a great need for people to recognize digital as a separate medium, and not use it as a substitute, but for it's own strengths.
