Windows Vista Document Folder Name Question

Okay, this is going to be a little weird - so I'll try to be as descriptive as possible.

I recently got a computer with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I enjoy it a lot, but I messed up in the initial setup and now I can't rename my Document's folder appropriately.

When I did the initial setup I was going a little too fast and I accidentally named my user account (set to admin) as Fuego. I meant to set my computer name to Fuego, which I did in the next step. So, my account and user name are both "Fuego". This appears on my system as "FUEGO/Fuego".

When I got into Vista I went into the Control Panel and renamed my user account to my name, Jolly McLoser. Okay, that's not my real name, but you get the idea.

However, my "Documents" folder on the C: drive (C:\Users\) is still named "Fuego". So my Documents folder is at C:\Users\Fuego instead of C:\Users\Jolly McLoser (which I changed my user name to previously).

Is there any way to change the name of this folder to represent my actual user name (which appears on the login screen, and everywhere else from what I can tell, except for this documents folder.

Obviously this is a relatively minor concern, but I'd like everything to match.

Not going to like this. Create another User with Admin rights. Restart computer. Log on with that User only. Delete the profile folder for Fuego. Next time you log on as Jolly Mcloser it will recreate that profile folder.

There might be a way in the registry but then all about hidden values behind your account and the profile that have to be changed before it will work.

    Don't delete the profile folder!

Here's the deal. There are way too many references in the registry that point to that folder. Topweasel is basically correct, that the only real way to do it is to reboot and log in as another administrator, and RENAME the old profile folder. Then log off and log in as the account you want, and the folder will be rebuilt with the correct name. It will be as if you've never used the PC before as that user. You'll need to move/copy your favorites/documents, etc from the old profile folder (that you renamed) to the new folder, and you may need to reconfigure software.

Edit - another brainstorm. This may work.
    1) Change the username back to the old name.
    2) Set up a second admin account with the name you want, and a third temp admin account.
    3) Log in as the new account to let Windows build a new profile.
    4) Reboot and log into the temp account.
    5) Launch the System Control Panel, go to advanced system settings, find the "User Profiles" section and click the settings button. Select your old profile and choose "Copy to".
    6) Select the profile folder of the username you want and make sure you give that new account permission.
    7) Reboot, log in as the new you, make sure everything's happy
    8) If everything's good, go back to the advanced settings in the System Control panel and delete the two profiles that you don't need anymore, and remove the extra user accounts.

Caveat - I don't have handy access to Vista Home Premium, so make sure all these settings are accessible to you. They are in Vista Business, but it may be different.

Okay, skipping Topweasel's approach as I see how deleting the original (Fuego) account could cause registry problems.

I created a new profile with the name I want and attempted to rename the Fuego user folder, however it says I do not have permission to do so? I clicked 'okay' to allow myself to do so and both are admins, I have no idea why it won't let me.

Then I tried your second method, however, in the control panel under advanced settings the only profile listed is for Fuego and there are no "copy to" options.

Must be because it's a home version then. Bummer. But yeah, you can't rename a folder like that without a reboot first, since some of those profile files are still in use.

Okay. So I did what you told me, then I just deleted everything sans system folders from "Fuego" documents and then made it a hidden folder. So the account is gone, I have no idea why the Documents folder remains, but oh well.

When I reformat in a few months and get a better hang of Vista I'll just take my time and not screw up on the naming this time.

This can be locked, thank you!
