All have one thing in common...
Reginald VelJohnson
Better known as the dad from Family matters, Alan in Diehard 1 and 2 and to my surprise a jail guard in Ghostbusters.
Let me explain
So the Ghost busters game is coming out soonish and my roommate talks me into watching the original movie again, and to my surprise i notice a few new things such as Reginald VelJohnson showing his face. This got me thinking...He played a cop in Ghostbusters (1984) a cop in Diehard (1988) and in family matters(1989-1997)
Could it be that in '84 he starts his career in law enforcement in '88 helps John McClane get through some tough times and in '89 it starts documenting his life in the show family matters. This of course needs explanation living in New york during Ghostbusters('84) scared the hell out of him so he ran to LA where he tried to make his living but in '89 when he helps john he realizes it's dangerous in LA so he goes to Chicago keeping is job as a cop, then in 1990 he gets a call from you guessed it John Mclane in die hard 2 '90 where he helps him out a little bit, then in '07 he shows up on ep 11 sea 2 of Chuck. This has a ton of potential as apparently Family Matters is set in the same "TV universe" as several other TV series related to ABC's TGIF: Perfect Strangers, Full House, Boy Meets World, Step by Step So if there was ever a ghost episode in any of these shows, CLEARLY they should have called the Ghost busters.
Shows/movies strung together thus far
Perfect Strangers
Full House
Boy Meets World
Step by Step
Chuck
Ghost busters
Die hard 1-4
Reginald VelJohnson is in episode 11, season 2 of Chuck. To extend your little theory, he is again playing Al Powell, reprising his character from Die Hard. :P

...oops...Well clearly living in New york during Ghostbusters scared the hell out of him so he ran to LA where he tried to make his living but OH it's dangerous in LA so F it he goes to Chicago?

Carl is a stocky, hard-working, and humble man. He is a police officer for the Chicago Police Department, who starts out as a sergeant, then gets promoted to lieutenant and, later, captain. Carl takes his role as the bread-winner of the household very seriously. Because of this, his opinion of being the "man of the house" tends to get in the way of more personal issues with his wife, Harriette. His favorite food is doughnuts. He is somewhat quick to concede to his wife, as evidenced by the fact that she often ends up teaching him a lesson when it comes to resolving petty marital disputes.

Didn't Steve end up with Myra in the end when his cool juice machine split him in to two people so that Myra could have him, and Laura could have StePHAN UrKEL?

There was a big Las Vegas crossover night one time with shows like Drew Carey, Coach, Ellen, and Grace Under Fire.

It actually makes crappy movies a little more wonderful when you pretend that continuities like this exist - like when you pretend that Predator is actually John Matrix's dark past revealed.
I see no reason for that not to hold true for awesome movies, as well.

that probably explains why nick cage always plays the same character except those couple times he had a thick accent
i like to think all the more recent nicholas cage movies is just john travolta wearing nicholas cage's skin still from the face off continuity and just messing with cage's career as a huge practical joke

Someone should rewatch Die Hard.
Why, yes. Yes it is.

Perfect!
He was a cop
Correct! In Chicago.
What?

Yes, the cop is the same character in all three movies, tying together their continuity.

WHAT. NO. I would never do that.
I was implying that Commando might be less-than-great. In an awesome way.
And yeah, see, in Nick Cage's case you just imagine that the guy he plays in The Rock also coincidentally is Ghost Rider.

I remember pretty distinctly a Christmas episode where he was trapped on a subway car with a hijacker or something like that
