G.I. Joe Resolute, it's what 80's kids have been waiting for.

The deep six:
# Adult oriented mini-series
# Series of ten 5 minute episodes, with a 10 minute finale
# Written by Warren Ellis
# Directed by Joaquim dos Santos (Avatar the Last Airbender, notably the last two parts of the Sozin's Comet finale)
# First episode airs April 16 on adultswim.com
# All episodes will be televised on adult swim, along with the finale's premiere, on April 25 at Midnight
# All episodes, including the finale, will be available on adultswim.com after the finale's premiere

And knowing is half the battle!

First preview from a con months ago, crappy cam video.
Promo

Watch them online at Adult Swim Give them your full support if your in the US, maybe if we can make this a success we'll see more.

For the rest of us that can't watch the US site we got the Youtubes so take a quick look there for the first three episodes.

We all know there is a G.I.Joe movie coming out but if you seen the trailer and your a fan of the original G.I.Joe chances are your not exactly fond of what you saw, even if you are odds are you wish they could make a true update to the cartoon we all knew and loved. If you never saw the cartoon some read the Marvel comic, now comes what some of us have been wanting well over a decade for, a true sequel to G.I.Joe and unlike the movie it's no disappointment. Better yet it's changed with the times and grown up with us yet keeps what we first loved about it ages ago taking the best of both the cartoon and comic merging them into one.

What more needs to be said except Yo Joe.

Or is that Cooooooooooooooooobra?

It's nice they kept all the original designs, but it's a bit jarring considering the super serious tone they're taking.

Surprisingly violent too. I'll keep watching though.

I've only seen the one episode of GI Joe (shown to me for comedic value), but...ouch. Ten million Muscovite, not to mention the shared military command of Russia and much of the CIS.

Ouch. This Cobra guy is pretty ruthless.

Ellis had this to say about it:
So my brief was to produce a non-tiny-child-oriented GI JOE. Which necessitated reading just a toxic amount of research, leading me to birth an odd, lumpy, normal-for-Norfolk-looking hybrid of the comic and the cartoon. The idea was, as I understand it, that bringing in a writer with absolutely no nostalgia for the property would give them the tone they were looking for. I think they were happy when I presented them with the initial list of characters I was going to just kill. And then the list of things I was going to blow up.

The people at Hasbro were actually remarkably supportive. And I did apologise after shouting at them those times. And they did give me one of those conversations that you never really expect to have when growing up:

HASBRO: No, Warren, you cannot wipe Beijing from the face of the earth.

ME: Shit. (pause) What about Moscow?

HASBRO: Wiping Moscow from the face of the earth would be fine.

Yeah, I'm loving this so far. You can definitely tell Warren Ellis has his signature on this based on the design of the orbital weapon Cobra is using. That is a pure Ellis machination right there.

I also, oddly enough, approve of Cobra Commander's voice/interpretation. :^:

The Animation kinda reminds me of the Bondocks(probably the same studio) instead of GiTS:SAC and Scarlet is voice by the same actress as Azula in Avatar. Stormshadow has the stupid Naruto Ninja run and there seems to be no Beachhead. 5 minutes is really to short for proper story progression, you would think people would have learned from the original Clone Wars shorts.

That being said I manage to find it fun and interesting. Story-wise its a step up, but then again it is Warren Ellis.

It's still leaps and bounds over a lot of the overly colorful, hurried drawn Saturday morning style that seems to be pervading animation from various countries (I blame TTGL).

It does look similar to The Boondocks, though at this size, some of the quality is lost.
