How to use Pomade

Okay this shit is really frustrating because I see people with really cool textured and styled hair and they just say "Pomade" yet when I try and style with it, I end up having to use more and more just to get it to hold and work right. What I have been doing has been just hoping out of the shower, getting dressed and while my hair is lightly damp, just used two fingers to rub it through the pomade, getting maybe a Q-tip sized amount on each finger tip, spread it though the tips of my fingers and work it through the hair (though not to the root).

Now I have fairly short hair but I could use a trim, I'll admit, but I just don't feel confident when using pomade at all. It certainly isn't as easy as gel but neither does it gunk up the hair as much either it seems yet I cannot style it for shit. =/

Any halp?

What I do is get a good-sized dollop, and rub it all over both my hands, palms and fingers. Then I basically just work my hands viciously through my hair, all over. That should get the pomade all throughout your hair and make it easy to style however you want.

Also, I always make sure my hair is just about completely dry. It never really works out if it's still wet.

where do you get your hair cut?

my experience has been that my hair has to be "set up" to use pomade. If you go to a hair stylist(not a barber) and ask for a haircut that looks cool with pomade, they should be able to set you up.

My aunt works at a salon and she cuts my hair. Usually I get it done nice and short and neat and it is supposed to work well with pomade but damn is it tricky to get the right effect. I do have fairly thick hair though, so maybe that is something to consider.

sounds like you've got the right idea then. I'd do what the guy above me said and try things out while your hair is dry.

Only other thing I can say is bring it up with your aunt next time! Whenever I get a new hairstyle I have the stylist give me a little demo of how to handle things.

The actual pomade you use also makes a difference as well. Also pomade usually gives you that shiny/oily look, if you want a nice dry matte texture hair wax is the way to go. Currently I am using Gatsby, but I heard good things about Sebastian as well.

The trick to getting that texture is to first towel dry, and then blower dry. Takes more time than I have in the morning, but say on a big date it might be worth while.

Another issue, and a very important one at that, is to not put too much, less is more is the mantra you want to follow when using hair wax. Too much wax will make it look greasy and terribly weighed down. A gallop the size of a cranberry should be more than sufficient if you have moderately short hair.

That's all for now, see how that works out for you.
