The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
After going through RE5 with my friend I got the urge to finally play through RE4 on my PS2. Of course my PS2's laser decided now would be a good time to crap out and not read anything but PS1 games. While looking around for a new laser I realized, amazingly, that it's cheaper to buy a Gamecube and RE4 for that. I've never had a Gamecube or N64- is it worth it to pick up a Gamecube now that they're like $30 used and what games/ accessories should I get besides Resident Evil 4?
New Wii's are $250 or so while the Gamecube would be around $30. If I had enough for a Wii it would be the obvious choice but sadly that's not where I am. With this in mind and assuming for now that I can locate a component cable through the specialty store near me, are there enough worthwhile games for the Gamecube to warrant a purchase?
edit: Thank you Sir Platypus, you are quicker than I am.

Not all of those are awesome and some sequels are better. For instance, TH: U is totally outclassed by TH 3. Pikmin 2 is also considered better than Pikmin.
Is it worth it? That depends on the availability of Gamecube games (and controllers) in your area. If the answer is "yes, Gamecube games are well stocked in my local shops (or I have access to resellers)" then HECK YES the gamecube is worth it, especially at 30 dollars.
If not, then no.
(As for accessories: controllers, and memory card(s) (pick one up that's 250+ blocks. It'll be fine). IIRC, that's all you should need. Unless you have some sort of specialized game.)

I spend a few moments looking over your list and I'm totally not seeing
Also, Starfox Assault was pretty good. Everyone likes to shit on it, but if you just play it as something that's not a Starfox game it's a fun little arcadey shoot-em-up thing.
I'd also recommend Baten Kaitos (I liked the first one better than Origins but I appear to be the minority), Tales of Symphonia, Cubivore, Custom Robo, Harvest Moon Magical Melody, Pokemon XD (if you have the GBA games), and Zelda Four Swords.

wii wont play my ikaruga OR my killer 7 OR my mega man x series OR my legend of zelda promotional disk, much to my annoyance
Tales of Symphonia hasn't been mentioned yet, and it's one of the better RPG's of last gen, if not the best for the Gamecube. As people have said, for thirty bucks, you really can't go wrong if you haven't played many of those games.
And on Rogue Squadron 2, if you've never played it, just try to remember that it was a launch title on the Gamecube. The graphics are some of the best on the system, and still impress me even today. I honestly think that it still manages to look better than some games that have come out in recent years.
As for Rogue Squadron 3, all of the flying missions were great, but they unfortunately were too few. It's worth it for the co-op remake of part 2, though, if you've got someone to play with. Funny how they include every mission from Rogue Squadron 2, but you can only play them in co-op mode.
Also, make sure to get a Wavebird controller. It lacks rumble, but it is such a long lasting wireless controller that it more than makes up for it.
Can you actually find those at a reasonable price now? Last time I checked they were pretty expensive.
One thing I hate about GC is the controller cable is so short compared to the Xbox and Ps2. Drove me crazy back in the day.
Oh and also
Duh we are Moby Games, we are going to take user content and add a watermark and prevent external linking.
That and Prime are only two Gamecube must buys I can think of, everything else I can take it or leave it. Well I guess the Resident Evil Remake is pretty good (exposing my bias here).
Also, Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2 if you don't own the Dreamcast releases.
To a lesser extent, Sonic Heroes & Shadow the Hedgehog.
Like Starfox, Shadow is a enjoyable game if you don't go in expecting a "Sonic" game.
Not a single game here is worth playing unless you have some kind of sexual fascination for a character in the Sonic universe. They are, all of them, mediocre games at best.
The Gamecube has many many many great games. It might still be the platform I own the most games on.

Hey now, Sonic Adventure 1 isn't so bad. I will grant that the rest of them were.
I do have SMS but I forgot to add it to the list. In all honesty though, I like Luigi's Mansion more than SMS as a whole but I like the crazy space/void levels from SMS more than Luigi's Mansion.
Don't think I've ever seen a wavebird at a used game store.
Wavebirds are like golddust now - Nintendo stopped making them a while ago, so only ones available are second hand or old stock from retailers. They are by far the best gamepad you can get for the GC/Wii, so if you see one cheap, snap it up.
Also, Starfox Assault was pretty good. Everyone likes to shit on it, but if you just play it as something that's not a Starfox game it's a fun little arcadey shoot-em-up thing.
This. My only fault with it was that it's too short, but other than that it's a fun arcade game. Surprisingly hard if you up the difficulty and try to get the best medals.

I concur. It's really weird how I have a few friends that got really into this games MP. I never did get around to unlocking Wolf.
If you're an RE fan, the GC is worth it for REmake alone. That and RE4 are about the only things I ever bothered to beat on the system. Well, I also fucking 100%'d Burnout 2 before the whole series went retard.
$75 is not a reasonable price for Game cube component cables. Unreleated I've been thinking of taking my gamecube out of the closet to use the game boy player.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

It'll play all the GCN games flawlessly, unlike the PS3 & 360 playing their older titles, and frankly RE4:Wii Edition is the best way to play RE4.
Edit: Oh and you can actually find Component cables for the damn thing, unlike the GCN.

[Edit 2] Forgot to add SMS to the list.
If it's running horizontal, try turning it vertical, then try turning it on and loading a game.
If it's running vert and not working, try turning it horizontal.
Sometimes that works.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. I thought Underground 1 was the best one.

I own both for the PS2, and I'd agree that Underground is probably better.

It should be mentioned that with enough money and time you can get component out of a Gamecube.
猿も木から落ちる
I still have my GC and I have component cables for it... what now?
BTW.. not all GC's can even use component cables. Later models took that feature out.
Of course, you'll need an early Gamecube with the necessary port...

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
