The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Sometimes I like to play video games on my personal computer. Sometimes I like to play them with my friend Spencer Pratt. We used to like to play World of Warcraft. However, we have discovered the evil, addictive nature of it and have taken an oath not to play it. Our alternative is Warcraft 3. It's a fine game that provides a fresh experience each time with it's map editor. Other games we have enjoyed together consist of Starcraft, and Diablo II. We seem to be fans of Blizzard games.
Surely there are other PC games that we can enjoy together. We haven't found one that has even come close to the amount of time we've spent on each Blizzard game listed above. This is where you come in.
Could you please suggest some games that can be enjoyed on my personal computer?
Team Fortress 2
Crysis Wars
Act of War
Act of War High Treason
Command and Conquer 3
Dawn of War
Dawn of War Winter Assault
Dawn of War Dark Crusade
Dawn of War Soul Storm

Left 4 Dead
FreeSpace 2
Supreme Commander

Escape Velocity Nova
Left 4 Dead
Myth 1 and 2
Sins of a Solar Empire
Team Fortress 2
The Witcher
Most of those are multiplayer, some of those are kind of old, but all are pretty neat.
In fact, I'd go with Wesnoth and Myth first, since they're free, then Deus Ex since it's incredibly cheap. Company of Heroes is a Relic game, so it's completely fucked in terms of balance, but there is absolutely nothing that looks better than it does, and man is it a fun RTS when you play with the right patch.
I'd second Left 4 Dead, coop shooting relentless hordes of zombies (Team of 4 people), about as much coop 1st person shooter fun you can have. Priced decently too.

Co-op is exactly what I'm looking for too.
As much as I hate world of warcraft since it's so addicting, I wouldnt mind a game I can get a little lost in. If I was to rank the games I've played in terms of time played: Wow, WC3, Diablo 2... after that it gets smaller, but perhaps COD4 for xbox.
I appreciate all the recommendations so far. I'm checking the Dawn of War 2 demo, and we might get Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Left 4 Dead is also a very solid recommendation. We've both tried it ourselves, but not together.
It hurts everyday when I spend more time on a game made by blizzard. They are cool, but I know there must be other stuff out there. When SC2 and D3 hits I'll be all over it.
To refine the list a bit, something that we can play together is paramount. Cooperative play is even better. We need something timeless and just a tad addicting.

For reals, it's the most under-appreciated, under-imitated RTS in the world. Everyone keeps remaking Command and Conquer with new flanges, but no one pays attention to one of the most fun RTS series ever.
The system is essentially an RTS where you build nothing. Not "almost nothing", not "well just a little headquarters" not "you call troops in with dropships", nothing. You are allocated units at the beginning of a stage, and you then attempt to (usually) maneuver from point A to point B while using your troops to clear a way through the enemy troops. The enemy is usually split between patrolling troops and static troops, which allows for a lot more variation in the actual moment-by-moment play. Not knowing whether engaging this group will keep you too busy when you get ambushed by some other group is really fun.
The physics system is brilliant. Everything happens slowly by default, and the speed can be changed by the player, so you can actually see enemy javelins/bombs/whatever in the air and attempt to scatter, as well as attempt to lead your enemies with your own arrows/molotov cocktails. Hills make people move slower, the undead can hide in water or float over it, your bombs can be duds (especially if it's raining), and then be re-ignited by a live one and kick somewhere else to explode. Your archers can shoot fire arrows that create reasonably realistically spreading fires, allowing you to leverage a field of grass into a deadly advantage, while not really helping for much more than direct damage in snow.
Frequently, they mix up the game with defend missions, and "oh god oh god we're being chased by an army" missions. Defend ones are pretty obvious, but the impressive physics system makes them more fun than most. It's not just setting up static defenses, setting up troops, and moving or healing troops when applicable. You can set little explosive satchels with your Dwarfs, ready to be blown by either their own molotovs, or the fire arrows of your archers. You can lead your enemies with your archers, and lay down a grouping of arrows accurately, rather than just doing X DPS. You can wait to intercept with your warriors until the enemy has been separated into small enough clumps, and in the meantime keep them in loose formation so that they can't be hit by enemy javelins as easily.
The Chasing missions are also pretty awesome, as they can provide either a legitimate incentive to book it while killing enemy units in your way as efficiently as possible, or become never-ending blood-baths that you feel like a badass for overcoming when you find a good defensive position.
And multiplayer was awesome. It's several game types (king of the hill, capture the flag, protect VIPs, etc), and you simply use a point-buy system to purchase whatever units the game's creator has allowed. It's basically real-time Warhammer only you don't need to pay $1000 a unit or get sand kicked in your face. My favorite moment was still the minute I realized that on one map (a king of the hill where the "hill" was actually a large bowl), I could simply wait outside the fray, then draw the last stragglers into the hill by placing a reasonable number of my own troops there... then have my dwarfs send down a rain of fire that blew the satchels placed under my troops, as well as the other teams, to kingdom come.
So basically: Relic copy this for DoW3, okay? Just do it. Bungie? Stop making this other crap, make a new Myth you useless bastards. And everyone else? Take some god damn cues from this brilliant series and stop trying to make a fucking Starcraft killer.
You forgot to mention it had the best narration of any game ever. But that's ok.
Oh man, and the little animated movies? Those fucking ruled. That's how you do cutscenes in the era before decent CG. Hell, I still prefer it.
And the soundtrack. Marty O' Donnell is a fucking genius.
And the damned Berserkers. Berserkers were so goddamn awesome. (I think they were called that.)
Hrungnir bereft of fear.
EDIT: Also, I don't believe Bungie can make another Myth. They lost the rights, afaik.
EDIT: Sweet, a list of all the Berserker names:

Also, I have to say that Fall From Heaven 2 for Civ 4 is one of the very few mods that I feel is worthwhile. It's incredibly ambitious and surprisingly succeeds in basically every way. It takes a game that really is not the best for replayability, and makes each civilization so unique that you want to try seeing what you can do with each. I mean, at least two of the civs are based around bringing about entirely different Armageddons.
Several races have entirely unique unit sets, most of the rules are significantly improved (especially if you get the Fall Further expansion or modmod or whatever), they have tons of unique terrain features, more interesting barbarians, a new random map generator designed specifically for the mod, and they get rid of most the silly sort of tanks vs spearmen combat that you see in Civ 4 vanilla. Usually, you need to focus on a few lines of technological improvement at the cost of others. So late warfare is your crappy units + your particular improved line (knights, or paladins, or demons, or beastmasters...) vs. their general infantry and particular improved line. It makes for far more interesting decisions. Plus, you can play a race of pirates whose first cities are by default "Innsmouth" and "Dunwich", then choose to worship Cthulu.

No one has mentioned System Shock 2 yet. I'm disappointed in everyone.
Also, play the Ur-Quan Masters. It's one of the best RPGs of all times and it's free.
Flatout 2 or Flatout: Ultimate Carnage series is great for some short gaming sessions. 1 hour or less.
They have these hotseat modes where you play games with the driver by having him crash through the windshield. One is to see how many flaming hoops you can get the driver though. You can control him a bit in the air and those are a blast to play and watch. Bowling is probably my favorite. It's awesome when you overshoot the pins and take down the bowling sign and just watching things fall and ragdoll around.

Kings bounty, Armageddon empires, Galactic civ 2, civ 4 with expansions, Battle for Wesnoth, Heroes of might and magic 4, Call of Cthulhu: dark corners of the earth. And tons of sleeper hits.
