Twitter + iPhone

So I've finally got into twitter and have two questions. I have an iPhone and at the moment I'm using twittelator which is free. I'm enjoying twitter and wanted to upgrade to a paid app for direct messages etc and was wondering if anyone here has any input on what apps are good. I like twittelator overall so I'm assuming the pro version would be great but what about tweetie?

Also any tips on twitter are welcome. I think I have a handle of it but I've only had my phone so I don't know much how trends and tags really work beyond the @whoever. Thanks.

I'm still pretty new to it, but I use Twitteriffic. It doesn't do much beyond display the folks I follow, but it's enough for me.

Twitterfon is what I use. Keeps pretty much everything well organized. It's free, so no harm in trying it out.

Dont know any iphone aps, but some basic tips:

    # is a hashtag. Hashtags mark a word for searches. If you talk about #videogames, #iPhone, #Watchmen, #news, #hockey, #playoffs, or whatever, you can mark it with a hashtag like I just did to basically index it (people can also click it in desktop aps like TweetDeck, not sure about other programs, to get to more posts on that topic).

A popular hashtag is #followfriday where on friday, you marka tweet with #followfriday and list @'s to people you think are worth following.

Speaking of TweetDeck, if you use Twitter on a computer (again, not sure about iPhone), it is my favourite 3rd party ap. I dont know how I used Twitter without it. Organize people into relevant columns of groups, have @replies and Direct Msgs in their own columns visible at all times and just a much better interface than the default Twitter.

Add @warrenellis . You wont regret it. He's a writer and quite insane.

Again, TweetDeck has it built in, but you should use some form of url shortener, like TinyUrl or what have you, to shorten url's you want to link to. save yourself a whole mess of characters that way.

Fill out your bio and other information. People actually read it and some wont follow people that dont bother filling it in thinking they're bots or whatever.

RT: before a post = ReTweet. ie someone is reposting what another person said. Usually you type:
RT @personYouAreQuoting "their msg copy and pasted"

ex: RT @weeklycrisis "here's some useful twitter tips *randomlink*"

That's about all I have. Simple tips are not to spam updates or let us know you are taking a shit or whatever.

ah that's what hash tags are about thanks. Do they have a mac client of tweetdeck? I'll definitely check it out if they do(I've been withot the real Internet for a few weeks).

I wasn't huge into twitterfon or twitterific I have tried those two previously but thanks.

Also, keep your twitter name short and sweet. It's a pain typing out longer names on phones.

I honestly felt the same way and out of boredom/want of a new app I started it. It's neat following friends and a few famous people (comedians being the best). It's addicting in way that doesn't make sense.

i use twitterific. you can reply, you can post pictures directly from the camera, apparently you can post your coordinates (i havent figured that part out yet) and it's super easy to use.

I love Tweetie. I recently canned both my desktop and iphone version of Twitterific in favour of Tweetie

It's cheap on the itunes store and has every feature I could need. I've got the desktop app for my Mac. I went for the free one, because I don't mind the odd ad, but it would be worth the 15.00 if I was going to throw money at it.

I used Twitterific for a long time but got tired of it and moved to TwitterFon, which is much better. TwitterFon has some performance issues, so I've since moved to Tweetie.

Tweetie is better in most respects, but TwitterFon is still very good. You can't really go wrong with either, and since Tweetie costs money, you'd be fine with the free one.

TwitterFon is a fantastic free app, which I used for months. Tweetie is a fantasitic paid app, and well worth the $3. If $3 is too much, TwitterFon will do you just fine, but seriously, spend the $3 on Tweetie.

I use Twitterfon and it works really well, as a few people mentioned. My brother and his wife both swear by Tweetie though I've never used it.

Not sure about others, but I use it for comic related twittering since the majority of comic book creators are using it for whatever reason. some post random news, breaking in tips, status updates, answer fan questions and so on. It's a fun way to get in touch with many of my favourite creators since I cant go to conventions. It's also a great way to promote my blog and meet other people interested in comics. It's not the same as 'having a poop' or other false arguments people make in regards to the pointlessness of twitter. Hell, if it was only Neil Gaiman and Warren Ellis on Twitter, I'd be more than happy to follow along with their updates just for how interesting both are in a way that a blog post or interview cannot express.

Twitterific can't hold a candle to either twitterfon or tweetie. I like Tweetie the best, but twitterfon is really close and does some things better.

Twitterfon is basically the best free app if that's your selling point, but Tweetie offers so much more and with such a clean interface it's baffling. I recently switched from Twitterfon to Tweetie and I don't regret that 2.99 at all. Now I'm using Tweetie for my desktop app too and it's pretty great.

option for landscape keyboard...auto shorteners, auto hosting of pictures, different themes...etc. It's just fantastic.

To learn more, here's the website for Tweetie:
