Autosellernetwork: Scam or not?

These guys have been hounding me to sign up with them to sell my car. I have my car listed on autotrader.ca, and had them call me out of the blue.

Essentially they called and said that my car was in high demand, and they have 300+ people actively searching for a car of my kind (2005 Mini Cooper S, btw). They are accredited with the BBB and have been in business since 2002, according to the dude I talked to. For $499 they'll list my car for 90 days and if they haven't sold it, they'll give me $400 of that back, so essentially it costs $99 to list my car on their web site.

Apparently they are a financing company that lists used cars and then offers the buyers financing, and that is where they make their money. They called me out of the blue, and pressed me for a credit card number on the first call. I tell them that I'm not going to give my credit card out to someone who's called me out of the blue I need to do my research. So I finally convince him to call me back.

This guy is a very persistent sales guy, as I've been avoiding their calls for 2 weeks. Mainly the whole thing sounded fishy, and I hate pushy people who call me out of the blue. They STILL are calling me... I've seen many complaints online, and his number comes up as blocked, hence me not answering. I'm pretty sure about this, and I know the adage "if you have to ask, then they probably are", but I still will ask the people here for a second opinion:

Are these guys scammers?

Paying someone $499 to sell your car is a scam.

True enough, but of course they had an answer to that: "we'll just include that in the price!"

I guess I just want assurance that my spidey sense is still working

Consignment companies want you to bring the car to them, or at least initiate working together. And you don't pay them until the car sells. And acredited with the BBB means nothing.

Pass, and answer the phone and tell them to stop calling you.

What mcdermott said. You listed your car on autotrader, they will do the exact same thing, but maybe list it on another site, but if all else fails they keep $100, at best make $500.

Scam or not, if someone ever pressures you to give them your cc number or buy something right away, it's a pretty good sign to take your business elsewhere.
