Wife's computer is not working for some reason

So sometimes it starts up fine and runs for a while then suddenly it just stops. No signal to the monitor and it sounds like the hard drive stops spinning. But it seems like everything else is still going. Some lights on, fans still running, etc.

Then for a bit after that, it won't start up all the way any more. Sometimes it'll get to the Windows loading screen, sometimes not even that far. Again, no signal to monitor, sounds like hard drives not spinning, but fans running, lights on, etc.

If we leave it for a while, sometimes it'll start up and run fine for a while.

What's the deal?

I'm going to have to go with the power supply. Try a spare out.

We tried swapping the power supply and the memory and it's still doing it. Any suggestions?

Is the CPU & heat sink seated properly? I had one PC I worked that was doing this and the heat sink was broken. I looked ok until I wiggled it and realized one of the plastic clamps (HP PC) was broken. So the CPU would run for awhile and then shut down instead of frying.

Check the temperatures in BIOS maybe? See what the auto shutdown is set to.
