    You do realise how much it costs per person at a wedding don't you?

    If you are a poor college student you should spend at least forty bucks for a present but when I was in University I spent seventy on a gift.

    You're not obligated to bring a gift.

    Guests spend money on travel, sometimes accommodation, perhaps a new outfit, too.

    We did not receive presents from all our guests, but some had made a real effort to attend and we appreciated that!

    However, I do agree that you should not go if you are not this guy's friend.

    A wedding invitation is just that - an invitation. It is not a summons or a request for a gift or money.

    I think diamonds are a bit too ridiculously pricey, so I'd never expect one and I wouldn't want anyone to feel pressured into getting me diamonds either, but that said it's not like I'd complain if I DID get one

    still, something pretty is all I'd really want, it doesn't have to cost, it just has to look nice
