Infantry Online

Anyone ever play this gem, in the good 'ole late 90's/early 00's? Specifically, back before SOE forcefully raped it without lube and turned it into the withering shadow of its former glory that it is today?

I guess a good way to describe it would be a top-down isometric Planetside or Battlefield 2142. Anyone ever toy around with it?

Give me a week, I'll have something witty and revealing to put here.

I remember having a lot of fun with it... until they started charging money for it and changing how just about everything was. That is all I remember though. It has been too long.

Oh man. Infantry was so much fun. I played on the RPG (I guess it was considered RPG since all the equipment was persistent) and was a Heavy. Ha. Now that I think about it, I remember that my login was DevilMayCry[DMC]. Oh man. Days of bliss.

I was a king among sergeants in that game. Once I really got cranking I could summon folks faster than you could kill 'em, so once I got set up in a shady spot, my team would steam-roll.

Yeah, during that period I migrated to one of the Free Infantry communities. However, they died once Infantry went free again (circa 2007-ish, I believe) and now basically everyone uses SOE's client.

They still decided to make that switch to late, though. At any given time, there's normally less than 200 people on all the zones combined. I remember back when there'd be thousands upon thousands of players at a time.

    Oh, nostalgia.
