Home theater/projector help?

So about 6 months ago, I assembled an ultra-budget home theater system from a hodgepodge of items I purchased on ebay. I was very happy with it until yesterday, when my screen won't display an image for more than 3 seconds.

I'm pretty sure there are some home theater buffs on this forum, so I'm going to list the components involved and what I've done to troubleshoot the problem so far.

My projector is an Ask Proxima M2+. It is hooked to a dvi adapter (proprietary connector) which is in turn connected to a 25 ft monoprice DVI->HDMI cable that plugs into the back of my reciever, a Yamaha HTR-6130. I've also got a regular RCA cable running between the two that I use for my Wii and PS2. The reciever is hooked up to a Comcast HD box, and a DVD player, both through HDMI, and the previously mentioned consoles with RCA. Everything worked flawlessly for quite some time now.

Now when I try to watch TV, all I get is sound. The screen stays black. I can switch input from the cable box to something else and then change it back to the cable and it will show the picture for about 2-3 seconds, then go back to black. Same thing with the DVD player. When I switch to the Wii however, it works fine. Also, I can go into the projector menu (via the remote) just fine while it's displaying a black screen.

I thought maybe something was wrong with my reciever, as the HDMI stuff isnt working right, so I plugged the DVD player directly into the projector and experienced the same black screen, only this time the signal input indicator was searching for signal every couple of seconds.

Am I wrong to assume that this is most likely a projector issue? What should I do now? I seriously have no idea.

It sounds like you narrowed it down to a projector issue. It also sounds like your projector is borked. I am not an expert in these matters, but it would behoove you to contact the manufacturer.

Set your device resolutions on everything to match the NATIVE resolution of the projector.

Typically when a projector acts like that, it's time to change out the bulb (unfortunately). If you bought it used, I wouldn't be surprised if it was nearing the end of its bulb life.

However, if it works on at least one input, that does seem like it might just be a resolution issue, as DjCalvin suggested.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

The TV and DVD signals have issues, and both of those are hooked up using HDMI. The Wii works fine, but it's connected using composite. If this were an issue with the bulb, I'd have expected any and all sources to be affected, not just HDMI. With the issue being restricted to HDMI, my guess is that what you're looking at is a hardware fault in the part of the projector's chipset that's responsible for processing HDMI signals. You'll probably have to get it serviced by the manufacturer in order to fix this.

Yeah, VonPoon, That's exactly the train of thought I had. I was really hoping it wasn't that though.

I did try setting the resolution, it doesn't work on any of them.

Right now I've reworked it so my cable goes over the composite line so my wife can watch TV, but I'm debating servicing this projector to get it working, or just getting a new one. I only paid $300 for it, so it's not like I want to invest a lot into fixing it when I could be upgrading to something better.
