The Weekly Silent Storm thread

It's that time again where I noticed I haven't made a Silent Storm thread in over a week and have fished out the game and actually want to try and beat it this time. So instead of playing for a few days and then giving up due to Panzerkliens and shitty skill trees, I'm wondering if people could reccomend the best mix of fixes and patches to -

-Get rid of Panzerkliens but make the game still balanced
-Gets rid of those super/alien weapons
-Fix the experience system so that characters who stay at base aren't the ones who level up
-Fix the engineers
-Make grenades more useful

I think I've tried the patch that fixes the first point but I was wondering of there was a jesus mods or mix of mods and patches that would fix these ailments for me.

Also, get on with the awesome Silent Storm stories.

Also also, random Silent Storm videos. Enjoy the terrible voice acting and destruction

I think my Let's Play had the best list of mods to make the game balanced and enjoyable. This game is so much fun to just replay, because you get into different encounters and missions on every replay. The story is also randomized to a point.

However, from those videos and the nature of the engine, it's not an audience-friendly game.

I've been meaning to get this for years.

If it were on Steam, I'd probably snag it right now, but I really should stop bitching and just get it off Amazon or Ebay or something.

Ok, so a few months ago, I was thinking "you know what was a great game? Silent Storm", so I reinstalled it. I then started a new game and played a few maps. Then I saved and quit. Next time I tried to start it, I got some SecuROM spyware shit telling me I had disk emulators on my hard drive and couldn't play the game. So then I uninstalled Silent Storm and haven't played it since. I also wish I still had my receipt.

The Let's Play has a list of mods, but not where to get them. The S2 community is pretty much totally dead, and that old Australian S2 HQ site had 404s on all the files last I saw.

I can only run Silent Storm on my PC. If I ever try to install or run Sentinels, the expansion, I get that error. I was quite pissed.

    A quick Google search yielded:

    Watchdog mod

    Other mods

    Links/Forum

Both appear to have working mods and links. That first video, by the way, was pretty cool. If you could replay your missions in real-time, that would fucking own.

Silent Storm is one of those games that pisses me off just because it gets so..close.. to being perfect then fucks it up. (and I don't mean the SF stuff- more the "leader dies MISSON OVER", weird leveling, etc..)

Unfortunately I don't think there's a mod that can fix the leader thing. :/

I'd like to second all of this. Is there any digital service that offers Silent Storm?

I must've repeated this story a hundred times, but I will never forget this one Axis mission where you go to capture some German VIP in his mansion. You're ambushed in an open courtyard by sharpshooters and heavy MGs, and for me it turned into a room-to-room siege in this guy's house; we'd hole up one room, kill a few soldiers, shoot our way to the next, set up shop long enough to patch up the wounded, and repeat. We ended up getting flushed back to a side entrance, where conveniently the VIP was making his escape on the floor above us. Blew a hole in the ceiling to cut him off and split the squad in three: four to attack him and his guards from two sides, and the other two to fend off other attackers coming back through the hall.

It was about as amazing as a strategy game has ever been for me.

Of course, then you have game-breaking bugs like that first Panzerklein mission at the factory. I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but after the boss showed up in his PK there was basically a set amount of time before the level would crash. I mean, like clockwork. The only solution was to run it in safe mode.

    Still worth it.
