Good software for music?

Like if I wanted to clean up or shorten or lengthen a music clip(mp3) what is some good free software? I remember one I found about 5 months ago, that was good and free, but for the life of me I can't remember it. I do remember it was on a puzzle site, where you needed a bunch of stuff to solve different puzzles, anyway, all help is appreciated.

    Audacity is free and supposedly decent.
