Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

He's back, but in Wii form...and DS, PSP, and PS2
indiana-jones-and-the-staff-of-kings-20090505094159306.jpg

From IGN-
"Step into the shoes of the legendary hero, Indiana Jones, in an epic adventure! Set in the year 1939, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings follows the rogue archaeologist on an globe-trotting quest. From San Francisco's Chinatown to the lush jungles of Panama, Indy must use his whip, fists and wits to fight through ruthless opposition as he spars with his nemesis, Magnus Völler, in a race for a relic of biblical proportions -- the Staff of Moses.

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings features completely interactive environments, where players need to call upon their wits and daring to make each spring-loaded environment a weapon in order to dispense of foes in clever and unexpected ways. Also, embark upon thrilling action sequences that remain true to the spirit of previous Indiana Jones adventures."

Videos thanks to Gamespot...

Looks like a lot of fun, and uses the Wiimote in a lot of ways...worth a look, I think so.
"...you are able to unlock the classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis game..."

Having never played FOA, I'm kinda stoked that I can give it a go.

The OP could at least put links to videos of the game in action. How else would people know what they're buying?

Alright, it's clearly not visibily better than a middling PS2 game, but neither was Godfather. It does look better in motion than in the first screens.

The gameplay doesn't look that bad.

I like that it uses the Wii controller in every way possible. Each part of the game seems like a mini game in appearance to me, but it looks fun to me. I dunno.

(Like the flying part, holding the wiimote up like a flightstick...if the controls work well, this could be great, just not graphically is all)

Yeah, some people are really annoyed by constant remote use but I don't mind it as long as it's logical and not just random shaking.

Personally most of the games that have you punching feel pretty good. Flight stick sounds fun. Whipping nazis sounds fun. Shooting always works well.

The ruins segments remind me of Tomb Raider Anniversary too.

Bumping this thread to post IGN's new co-op mode video. Everyone should watch it:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP1DKKuUEOI

It looks like it's an entire separate game for two players, like co-op Splinter Cell missions.

Some of the footage looks really good, like dogfighting and riding the rapids. The game looked completely terrible in the first screenshots but as we go along it gets better and better. I may buy this for the actual game rather than the classic point-n-click included!

I suppose the earliest Indy movie I can remember watching as a kid while actively being aware of the franchise would have to be Temple of Doom.

She was the "fun aunt", but sometimes she would overdo it.

Like, one time she came along with my family for a car trip to the United States. While sitting in the seat behind me, she would all of a sudden grab my neck and say, "I'm Jason!!!" (from Friday the 13th).

It was funny the first couple of times, but imagine someone doing that to you, for pretty much the entire length of a 6 hour car ride...

Anyway, these videos don't look too bad. I can only assume Han Solo is an easter egg or a skin for Indy.

I think this looks like it could be a lot of fun, but the fact that the co op partner is Indys father bothers me somewhat. Maybe hes just as badass as his son in the comics or something, but in last crusade he seemed more like the kind of archeologist who spends most of his time in museums, libraries and carefully planned digs. And didnt Indy and his father not talk to eachother for something like 15 years?

Anyways, I picked this up the other day and so far it's been great, the Wiimote related bits are well done and the feel of it is generally Indiana Jones-esque all around. Including punching Nazis in the face, which is always alright, but now with the added Wiimote, it's feels rather wonderful.

Basically, FoA is what Kingdom of the Crystal Skull should have been. Amazing story, fun Nazi villains, mythology that doesn't involve aliens or hiding in a fridge during a nuclear explosion, etc.

Plus Nazi face-punching if you so choose.

If Lucas and Spielberg had made FoA into a movie I would have been a very, very happy man.

Edit: And if you've never played FoA before and you like adventure games, you should get Staff of Kings. I don't own a Wii but I would get SoK just so I could play FoA on my Wii.

What Josh said. It's a classic adventure game with a great story, with three different paths you can take to complete it; Teamwork, Wits, or Fists. Each one has their own quirks and solutions to puzzles, some tougher than others. It's definitely worth playing if you're interested at all in the Adventure genre.

The game can be unlocked via a code right at the beginning.

It's getting 50-70 at all major review sites. Critics hate this game. Sounds like mostly because most actions in the game are mapped to various motion controls. Kind of an irrational hatred for waggle wherever you look...although if it really isn't accurate at picking up your motions that's a game breaker.
