Blinky text cursor in places it doesn't belong in!

You know that little blinky bar that marks your place in text fields? Wikipedia tells me it's called a caret, but I've never heard that before.
For some reason it's showing up for me wherever I click on the page, regardless of whether I can actually interact with the space. For example, if I click in the middle of the words, "Disable smilies in text," as I'm making this post, it will pop up right where I clicked; or by the big Penny Arcade logo at the top of the page, it appears next to it.
This started happening a couple minutes ago. I thought I might as well try rebooting, but it didn't help. I'm using Firefox, if it matters. It's not really a big problem, just sort of strange.
