External Hard Drive Problems

I have a Seagate Freeagent 500 gb hard drive that is no longer properly spinning up or being recognised by two different computers using multiple different USB cords in each. It will light up but that may not be an indication of the drive itself receiving power properly. It seems likely that it got bumped damaging either the drive itself is hurt or else the connection for the usb cord has come loose.

What are my options here? I have about three years of south-western photography on this hard drive and would really dislike loosing that.

Are you using the original USB cord? I know with my FreeAgent Go I can only use the cord that came with it.

Yes the original one. I also tested it with a couple other cords we had laying around as well.

Well, you can try and find someone who has an original cord you can borrow to see if that's the problem. Or you can just take the drive out of the enclosure and stick it in your computer.

As I said I tried it with the original cord. Unfortunantly I have a laptop so taking out the disk is not an option at the moment.

Cords can and do die. This is why you should try a different OEM cord.

I guess that makes sense. I'll ask around and see if anyone has one.
