Why do games discriminate against my dual monitors with different orientations

So I just got a spiffy new 23 Inch LCD 1920x1080 to go along with my 20.1 Inch 1680X1050. I am running a Radeon ATI 4800 series card on Windows 7.

Main monitor is set to 1920x1080 landscape.
Second monitor is set to 1680x1050 portrait.
Extend desktop is enabled.

The purpose of my second monitor is for reading PDF, lengthy documents, scans etc. Works fantastic while doing work. However, games that go full screen hate the orientation differences. It will attempt run, both monitors will flicker back and forth. I have to end the processes manually. Now if I set the second monitor to landscape as well, games start up fine on the main monitor.

What gives? Any fixes? As a work around, I've just been disabling the second monitor or setting it to landscape whenever I play a game.

Are you running the beta or RC of Win 7? Have you experiences similar problems with Vista? I'm just throwing out some ideas.

Mine seem to get along pretty fine...

Make sure the games themselves are set to your primary monitor's resolution?

Hm, the landscape/portrait thing... if you say setting it to landscape works, that may be the issue, then. Sorry, never mixed port/land before...
