Planning on buying an ipod touch

So yeah, I'm pretty much going to buy an ipod touch but before I do so I was just wondering if anyone knew about any upcoming apple announcements where they'd announce a new ipod, cause that'd suck if I'd just bought one...

So should I wait a bit or is it alright to go ahead?

Products usually get announced at Macworld. This years was a few months ago, so its unlikely that a new ipod touch will be announced in the coming few months.

Products will always be advancing, whatever you buy now will become obsolete. Try and think of your requirements, does the ipod fit them? If it does it shouldn't matter what else comes out until the day your requirements change. Make the leap already.

Yeah alright, that's all I wanted to know. I'm buying a 32 gig one, just wanted to know that they weren't gonna release a new ipod the day after I bought mine...

They just released the 2nd gen in September, I'm pretty sure they'd give it a shelf-life of at least a year before popping out a new one.

Especially because it just tweaked some minor issues in the first gen, like volume control on the outside and a speaker

There a rumored new iPhone coming out in June. I wouldn't really be that surprised if a new iPod Touch came out at the same time. Especially because Apple will be releasing a major software update for the Touch/iPhone.

I would advise waiting until the release of the 3.0 update, because you might miss out on some cool features like an FM tuner.

Edit: Macrumors specifically warns not to buy an iPod Touch right now. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iPod_touch

the 3.0 update is just an O/S update. iPhone users get it for free and iPod Touch users have to pay $10 to download it through iTunes.

I wouldn't hold off buying a touch just because of it. Get it now and just shell out the 10 bucks when the time comes.

Except the 3.0 software includes features for both the iPhone and Touch that will require new hardware (if rumors are correct), like an FM tuner, video camera, etc. Apple likes to make a big deal of updates; chances are good a major OS update will be accompany a major hardware update. Especially since the new software supports features that are nonexistent in the current hardware.

I'm not pulling this shit out of thin air; Macrumors says in big red letters not to buy and iPod Touch right now because the chances are very good that there will be an update in June.

True. No Touchy for you right now. Besides they usually have "back to school" specials in a few months if you can wait. Not a WHOLE lot off, but a little anyway.
