I have a Dell XPS1330 laptop, which came with a charger of course. I just inherited a different Dell charger (from an Inspiron 1550 I think?), and I'm wondering if I can use it on my XPS. It seems that every Dell computer uses a different model charger, so googling was little help for clarifying for me. The pins on the chargers are very similar, but not exactly the same: the XPS one is octagonal on the outside and binds into the female jack on the laptop. The ? charger is circular and fits, but does not bind; a concern, or just maybe not as tight a connection?
Specs:
XPS charger:
? W (I think 65W)
Input: 100~240V~1.6A(1.6A) 50-60Hz
Output: 19.5V(19.5V) ~3.34A(3.34A)
Dell charger:
65W
Input: 100~240~1.5A(1.5A) 50-60Hz
Output: DC 19.5V 3.34A(3.34A)

Thanks!
you should be able to charge it fine with the other one but i wouldn't recommend using anything but OEM. just one of those things...
I've used different wattage chargers on Dell laptops, but they had the same connector. Only issue I had is that a low wattage one from an ultraportable caused a more powerful laptop to underclock.
Wattage is important. If the XPS had 65w, then the 65w from the other Dell should be fine. I know where I work we had two different power cables 90w for docking stations and 65w for just the laptop. The 90w worked fine on the regular laptops too but you couldn't use 65w on docking stations.
I know the XPS is a bit more high-performance desktop replacement type laptop, so I would be concerned about that. Call Dell to make sure.

Having worked in the customer service field before i can almost guarantee dell will say you can only use their stuff. they will also only support their warranty/computer if you are using their stuff. this is why i said i wouldn't do it. i wasn't saying test it out and see what happens i am saying mathematically it will work but computers are tricky things and can work improperly or stop working all together.
You do know that XPS is a model of Dell computer, right? We're talking about using a charger from one Dell laptop on another Dell laptop.
no actually, but it doesn't change my point, by their stuff i mean the origional parts for the computer. hell most places won't even support a DVD drive if you have added a gig of ram to the system until you remove the gig of ram
