[Recommend On] Dating Sims

I'm only doing this for the nookie.

My ladyfriend wants to play some dating sims in english. Everything is in japanese and without subtitles usually.. so does anyone have any recommendations that I can pass along to her? She can only take so much hentai, so hentai-free is preferable but if it has a good dating sim in it, meh, she'd probably accept it too. (I'd love to catch her playing a dirty dating sim :winky:)

I know this OP is bare, but give me a break, I know nothing of this niche genre. Take a lolcat or something.

By dating sims, I assume you mean visual novels?

    Or like... Harvest Moon affairs?

    Ladyfriend, hey? Hmm.

Afraid I can't help you too much there. Do you mean flash games?

She's only ever really played the Harvest Moon type, but any will do as long as it's got quality.

Visual novel.. kind of like a text-based adventure? I guess she'd like that, but it's probably better to have stats and that sort of RPG thing in it.

    Riviera. Maybe Ar Tonelico.

Most of the good VNs that have been translated really have minimal to no romantic content. You could try Ever17. It might fool her long enough into thinking it's a dating sim instead of a sci fi thriller.

There are a few for the DS. My roommate had one where you had to buy stuff and offer it to different girls... then there is one called "Sprung" I found with a quick google.

Why not the sims? You can date AND it's a simulation!

DoA Xtreme Beach Volleyball is pretty much a dating sim. I'm pretty sure the ultimate goal is to make all the other girls love you so much that they'll be happy to accept your gift of a rhinestone bikini made with 3 dental floss strings and wear it at all times with no shame. And isn't that really the goal of all dating sims?

I thought the goal of dating sims was to grind the numbers until your avatar becomes a perfect digital Adonis?

Maybe in dating sims where you play as a male, you plebeian. In a game as sophisticated as Xtreme Beach Volleyball though you're already perfect as you are a woman, the most perfect creature on the planet Earth. You aren't some smelly man who needs stats. Therefore the other girls will not be swayed by stats as you have already arrived as perfection. Only material goods and victory in the Lord's game of volleyball will sway them to your side.

Persona 3 and 4 may count.

So may Riviera: The Promised Land, the Tales of... games and maybe Summon Night: Swordcraft Story.

All these games are basically JRPGs with Dating Sim elements. They're most notable in P3&4, though. For the others, they're more of an afterthought.

There aren't many, if at all, dating sim games in the US. They're either a side portion of the main game, or a hentai game.

That said, games like Harvest Moon are uh... harvest moon games, including Rune Factory/Rune Factory 2. I enjoyed Azure Dreams' dating stuff, but that's PS1.

    ... the Tales of... games

Symphonia's the only one that even approaches anything close, and that amounts to approximately two paragraphs worth of text variance for all of them but one and has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the ending.

    My mistake then.

Though those two paragraphs do translate into two somewhat notable scenes.

Where does the casino mini games fall into?

Besides, Xtreme 2 improves on everything (everything!) its predecessor lacked including a dumb down Wave Race clone.

There was an RPG that used this to a great extent. I can't for the life of me remember the name. I believe you were a blacksmith. It was decent.

AH I REMEMBER NOW. Thousand Arms.

Shit. The main character's name is Meis. How the fuck did I not remember that.

You mean Evoke, Evoke Personas, which are neither psychic nor emo, and yes the dating sim aspect of the game is hugely important (it's critical for levelling up your Personas)

Basically if you haven't played P4 at least you're doing yourself a huge disservice

If she's patient, Sakura Wars just got announced for a PS2 and Wii release in the U.S. Surprised no one brought that up.

But yeah, I think Persona 3 and 4 are the way to go for now.

Oh crap, there was a game I played probably 10 years ago that was a relatively good dating sim. In depth RPG stat building, bunches of ways to woo the different girls, etc.

The difference was, like in most games, once you've won the girl's heart, you get married or whatever and that's the end. This one went one step further and you and your chosen love go to a Japanese love hotel and bang the shit out of each other.

Sex controls and everything. I'm not joking.

Very, very graphic and very NSFW, which is funny, because up until that time, the game plays like a straightforward, normal dating sim. Go through the whole game, and BOOM! it turns into Make Your Own Money Shot.

ULTRA MEGA NINJA EDIT: I found it! It's a Flash game called Ganguro Girls. I'd link it, but due to the ending, I didn't know if it's be ok, and the one I found is embedded on a website, and I distinctly remember playing it on an offline computer, so there's a free-standing version floating around out there somewhere.

There's this really great dating sim I've played. It's called The Real World. Incredible graphics, full body force feedback controls, crazy surround sound and no lag, ever.

    Although, respawning is a bitch.

Search in the web for an old game (windows 95) called True Love. Is a dating sim with rpg-style status, and the H-scenes are fairy tame. Inclusive you can select your initial personality.

There was a 'The Sims' rip-off game called 'Singles: Flirt Up Your Life' or something... it was all about having a roommate and trying to bang them, I believe. Never played it myself but I do remember reading about it a number of years ago.

Also, The Sims 3 is just around the corner (June, supposedly!) and I imagine it's going to have a pretty heavy dating/relationship element.
