Perhaps this could work in G&T but I figured I'd just post it here. I am a voice student and I want to start recording my lessons/practice sessions so I can actually hear what I sound like and really improve. I also want an MP3 player and I remember when I was looking into buying one a while back a lot had voice recording capabilities.
So, what I want is for you to help me find an MP3 player with good sound recording capabilities. I need to hear my own voice quite clearly. I also need the MP3 player to have large enough memory (512MB minimum... hopefully a few gigs).
You may be looking for something less expensive, but I would consider the Creative Zen MP3 Player.
I have never used this player, but I owned one of the first generation Creative hard drive based MP3 players and I had few complaints.
You really need to decide if you want a hard drive based player or a flash memory based player though. The former will give you 30-60GB of space (room for hundreds of albums). The later is cheaper but you will have to swap music in and out, you probably wont be able to fit your whole collection on the thing.
That looks sexy as hell. Have you used the sound recorder on it before? Do you think it's good enough to meet my needs?
No clue, I haven't actually used one myself (though I've been eying it for some time), it's just the first thing that came to mind. I've heard very good things about it though.

I've got a Creative Zen Vision:M and it does all that and plenty more.
The voice recording is as good as you'll find on any MP3 player without an external mic. no matter what it will sound fairly flat, but it will give you a good idea. Won't be crystal clear, but certainly better than nothing.
Ok I think I'm going to go for the Creative Zen. Unfortunatley I'm in Canada so I can't buy from Amazon.com and Amazon.ca doesn't have any so my next best bet is NCIX but there it costs $290. :?
If anyone knows of any better place to get one in and around my area (Waterloo, Ontario) that'd be most appreciated.

Well, if you can wait until boxing day, you might snag a sale from FutureShop or Best Buy. They'll both have online sales, too.
If I were you, I'd make a list of MP3 players that fit the needs, and wait for boxing day, and grab the cheapest one.

I was planning on getting this for Christmas, but your idea does have merit.

The Chinese can make a pretty nice mp3 player, surprisingly. I own one myself, and it's excellent. Including the dancing men when you play an mp3. Priceless.
