Converting MKV files to something watchable on both my Xbox 360 and Macbook.

I have a bunch of MKV files, but I have no idea what to do with them. WHAT ARE SOME SOLUTIONS? Is there any free software I can use? Also, how do I use it?? Any help would be appreciated. I'm new to macs, AND I'm new to MKV.

Sony Vegas trial might have some answers for you.

Their starter addition is also reasonably affordable if you need to use it a lot.

.mkv are blue-ray movies. Download VLC Player to play them.

They are? I knew these files were HD but I don't think they're available on Blu-Ray anywhere. Is there a way to convert these to a format playable on Xbox 360?

Well, not exactly blu-ray, but HD quality comparable to blu-ray.

    Oh, and for conversion:

    Check out Riverpast Converter.

Be prepared, though. Conversion times run high.

Wrong. It's Matroska files. Container format just like .avi. Very common for anime since it can hold multiple audio tracks and subtitles in one file.

edit: just get VLC to play them on a Mac.

I'm assuming your 360 is hooked up to a Network from which you could stream the files from a computer. If so, I think I've heard Tversity does something like this. Haven't used it myself but you might want to look into it.

Also nice because forcing Xvid or h264 codecs into an AVI container (which is a huge hack as it is) keeps you from using features like B-frames in your encoded videos. AVI also doesn't support VBR audio so that means codecs like Vorbis are out.

I already corrected myself. Good, albeit late, call.
